Hi guys. I am new to collecting high end cues so really need your help on this one. Honest opinion please.

Since I am collecting and not playing with these high end cues, I try to buy them "new" and unchalked condition most of the time.

A situation came up on a Mottey cue. This cue is beautiful and would command at least 3500 to 3900 from Mottey's shop today....and probably would wait for a long time to get it. So, if this cue was chalked up and played for a few games, do you think it will depreciate the cue from a collector's stand point?? If so, how much do you think this cue has depreciated? Keep in mind that this cue was played for only 30 minutes or so....so I consider this cue is in excellent condition.

Your opinions is greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you!

Not a collector, but can't see how a cue thats been hit for that little would go down much in value. Keep in mind the most collectible cues (GS, GB, H. Rambow, Burtain Spain, Martins...etc) of past days were almost all players.

i think as long as your Mottey shows no sign of wear, scratches, dings or dents it shouldn't affect the value much at all. but on the other hand it all depends on the cue. sometimes the more sought after the cues are the less it will affect them. sometimes it just the opposite. one of a kind cues could be more or less affected determied by who made it and when. the cue market can be a funny world for collectors because allot of them have their own criteria they follow. the only advise i would give a new collector is collect what "you" like. that way it stays fun. good luck and enjoy yourself!

There are so many Mottey's available that I would not be concerned about a chalked cue, a nice Mottey will hold it's value regardless..... just my opinion

There are collectors and there are dealers. It would probably make more of a difference to a dealer than a collector, otherwise, a few hits with a cue shouldn't affect the value.

As a collector, however, when you sell it you would just say "new cue, test hit only". That's what I do and I think we all understand what this means.

There are a few people, mostly dealers but some collectors, who would not buy a test hit cue, but not very many. If you keep the cue for 10 or 20 years, it won't make much difference.

One of the things I look for in collecting IS the hit of the cue. If the hit is not there I most likey Pass on the buy. The only way to do this is to shoot with the cue. More times than not when you see (test hit with only). It saw a "Little" play time. Hope this helps.. Bill
