hi i am looking for a new shaft for my joss west cue, looking at ob1+,also joss ld shafts, don't want predator, any thoughts on the two i am looking at?thanks

the OB 1+ plays well - soft hit. I also like the Katana on my Joss - a bit more of a firm hit to it though.
(haven't received my Joss HP yet - so can't respond to that. Ask me in June :-))

I would love to hear more about the Joss HP shaft. :)

Anybody?

.

I ordered the laminated one. After talking to Dan, he said not to turn it down under 12.5. (I originally said 12.25). I said that was fine - well within my comfort zone.

I'm expecting it and my cue in maybe late May, early June. He did call yesterday to ask about stain - so he is currently working on it.
I will do brief review when I get them.

Take your pick, but go slim in any case!
11mm - or even less. It will be a revelation.

If you want to stick with production stuff, take the slims from OB (the soft ones or the classic ones, depends on your style) or Katana (they do 11,5).
I'm a bit disappointed with Tiger, but am still in love with my Cuetec R360. What a great shaft that's ruined by the Everest tip (put on Ultra Skin M)! I would love to get a skinny there...

Predator must be avoided, that's just crap without feel.

Mezz WX900 has also a lot of good say, but it's 12mm.

Cheers,
M

I think the Predator 314-3 is the best LD shaft to come out in a really long time from any maker.
My comparisons; I have several other Predator shafts (314's, 1 Vantage and 2 Z-line), 3 or 4 of the SS360 (Gen 1 and 2) I have several OB's (much more than I care to - don't like those at all), couple of Mezz and a few other custom LD's.
Haven't felt this kind of hit since pre-cat and Gen 1 314's were first coming out.
PLUS it has all the latest LD stuff in it.
As I said in a previous post, I think several generations from now people will be asking for the 314 gen 3 because they just hit dang well is the bottom line.
But much of this is of course subjective.
So go with what feels best in combination with the LD properties you want.

If you have a 5/16-14 joint, the Mezz Ex Pro united joint is a fantastic choice.

The EX-Pro is a fine shaft, however it is very similar to a Mezz HP2, the main difference being a slightly softer taper on the EX-Pro.

So, I would suggest the HP2 and if it's too stif you can always have it taken down a little, put on your favorite tip and still be out less money then the EX-Pro.

I have only tried one of the two types of LD shafts by Joss. The Natural and its a great hitting shaft.

I use a OB Pro.. I love it. I give it high marks. used it on my Lucasi for awhile and then I completely switched to OB Cues.

I have heard that elsewhere.

It is a common misnomer that LD shafts have to be laminated. I think this Joss Natural is a great example of that.

"The Laminated" is on the stiff side, but the taper is nice, fairly low deflection and very good feedback.
"The Natural" has a bit more flex to it and feels more comfortable to me. The quality is a step up from OB in my opinion.

I have since purchased and played with the Joss HP (laminated) shaft. All I can say is WOW! The accuracy and feedback is nothing short of spectacular.
I have this shaft installed on my Joss butt. I have been shooting with a predator 314 2 shaft and was shooting very well, for many years. But this Joss HP shaft improved my accuracy tremendously and english is effortless with the Joss Premium layered tip. II'm drawing the ball 4 rails. I couldn't be happier.

So if you're contemplating buying this shaft.... DON'T ... Just do it!!! You won't regret it!

I’m having trouble justifying their price tag. Looking at the construction, it’s the exact same as a Lucasi, or a Hybrid Lucasi Zero Flexpoint shaft. Both are cored front ends with a lighter wood core. Hardly something new, and they’re charging nearly double for their version.

Be careful going that small unless your stroke is LASER straight.

I have to admit.. I really wanna try one of those SS360 shafts. I wish I could find one with a joint that would work with my cue.

Diveney LD shafts.

Pat Diveney is offering his version of an LD shaft. I have one of his Lake Salvage LD shafts and he is making me a 30" 12.65mm Kiel Wood LD shaft now. They are sold maple and I like them.

I would also like to try the Cue Tech shaft Shane uses, then maybe I could shoot like him. Or maybe the shaft Shaw or Dennis O. uses. Then there are the black Predator shafts Thorpe and Filler use.

Maybe I will stick with the wonderful Diveney shafts as I really don't think any other shaft will raise my game a bunch.

So many shafts, so little money and time..........
