Highest number of rack run in a row in 9 ball.

Yes, for that reason alone, the statistic is pretty meaningless in my eyes. A fairer (but easier) test would be how many straight racks have you won against the ghost. While I am not denying the enormous skill required to run multiple racks, if you make a ball 75% of the time on the break, by the time you run seven racks, the fact is you only have a 13% chance to actually make seven breaks with balls made in a row. Any streak that involves luck on this scale cannot amount to a worthwhile statistic.

what?? you still have to complete the run! there's a myrid of "non luck" scenerios that could happen against the breaker also. some balls being frozen together or bad cue ball position ect.... the "luck" or "bad luck" factor plays both sides of the fence.

I ran 7 one time on a 8 foot table with buckets. 4 run outs 1 nine on the break and 2 combos early in the game. So when people ask me this question I usually only say 4 from the break.
On a 9 footer with 4 and 1/2 inch pockets I ran 3. My break is weak and it usually slows my momentum down.

You misunderstand. I said in my original post that a great deal of skill was obviously required but the underlying fact is the stat relies on luck. Let me give an example of a streak that has no luck. Last year on tour, Tiger Woods made 560 three-foot putts and missed none. That's right, none. He has the skill, nerve and talent to hit every putt straight, firm, true and confident. The stat relies on no luck. If the streak involved a 20% chance on every putt, out of his control, that caused a miss such as a mole popping up and grabbing his ball, the streak would then be extremely lucky.

If you have the skill to consistently beat the 9-ball ghost, any 9-ball break and run streak whether it be 8, 10, or 15 games is a meaningless stat.

Stevie moore ran 8 and out against charlie bryant in memphis about 6 months ago on 4.5 x 9's on the toughest table in the building... then justin bergman handed him his ass... whoever said their personal best was seven in a row.. if that was on a 4 1/2 x 9 then you are my hero... that is hard as crap to do and i would imagine you have won a few big tournaments if you are that caliber... meanwhile ... ive never heard of you

Hardly meaningless. Just because there is an element of luck does not render the feat trivial. It still requires a lot skill to take advantage of these lucky breaks. Breaking and running is more difficult than playing the ghost. You have to work with whatever position you have on the 1 ball to try to get in line with the 2 ball. Playing th ghost on the other hand you merely have to make sure not to scratch, than you give yourself ideal position on the 1.

But by your logic Willie Mosconi's 526 ball run is a meaningless stat. It all depends on how well the rack breaks up, what clusters emerge etc. So in effect Willie was really lucky. Any run in pool is meaningless stat for that matter, because the player was lucky to get a layout that he/she could run through, whether the balls were open or there was a ball that could be used to break up a cluster. They were lucky.

The only conclusion that i can come to from this line of thinking is that, since pool is a game made up of entirely meaningless stats and wortheless achievements, pool is thus a meaningless game.

I highly doubt that was what you were getting at. But its late and Im bored. :D

When I was 18 my Step-dad and I went to play some for the first time. I used to just go watch him play against other people. He ran 10 9-ball racks in a row on a 4.5' x 9' Gandy. I never said a word. He broke game 11, made 2 balls, had a perfect shot on the one, and nothing was tied up. He looked over at his drink and chair and snipped the one ball snug behind the 8 and went three rails with the cue ball to safe me frozen behind the 9.

I looked up at him in utter disbelief and said, "What the hell are you doing? You just ran 10 in a row and you chose to play safe?"

He looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "I wanted a drink and needed to sit for a second."

I started laughing my *** off and said, "OMG! You know you could have just said time-out or something."

All I could think of was, I wonder how many he had run in the past. He never talks about triumphs or brags so I have always wondered. To this day, he has ever told me.

Funny ending to this story. About 6 months after this, he quits pool COLD, gives me his cue and goes out and starts playing golf. He had never even played golf before. Five years later, he passes his playing test to be a professional and his now gives golf lessons. :)

The Mighty Earl!

I think earl's run for the million might have been in the first round or early rounds of that tournament. In fact I think he ran 11 racks. I am pretty sure Randy G was there and has relayed the story on this board before. In nine ball that has to be the best running of racks for the cash ever, IMO.

Funny how these stories change. I've been in the club where Niels ran 15 racks, it has only 9-footers. And I know the exact table Niels usually practises on and yes, it's a 9-footer.

To run as many racks as people are saying they've done or seen, you probably need a corner ball dead on the break every time. Either that or people around here break harder than Busta. I've seen tapes where the corner ball shot in 20 times in a row; I can't imagine anyone breaking 10,15 times without coming up dry at least once if the corner ball isn't going in.

Someone said CJ has a tape of Earls' run and was considering putting it out for sale. Maybe they can make a 2-for-1 tape with Earls' run as well as John Schmidts 200+ at 14.1 john says he has on tape. I'd buy it.

I've never heard Efren ran 20+ racks. I've heard rumours of Luther lassiter running 20+ but it doesn't seem to be verifiable by anyone.

Matlock ran 20+ 5 times on a barbox? That's just plain ridiculous. Seems a number of barbox specialists have run 13-15 racks. Sounds like a good time for the guys they're playing...

My personal best is 7 racks from the snap, in a tournament with a race to 7 format.
That was the one and only time. Sure I've had a few 4 and 5 packs, but only one 7 pack.

I personally watched a match between Durbin, and john Hennessey where Durbin ran 12 out in an 11 ahead match. hennessey broke and ran a rack, played safe and never got to shoot again. Memphis 03'.... I use to play in tournaments against larry Nevel when I lived in Wisconsin, and I would bet on that 13 he's run. My personal best was 8 in a 300.00 set going to 9... those were the 8 to get out though.. quit after that..

at the same venue years earlier Jimmy Reid ran 20 on those bar boxes! it was in the tournament, races to 7. he ran out two complete sets and six games into the next set. don't know if that counts as 20 in a row.

And then it will be 23 racks on a bumper pool table, then 30 racks on heated Verhoeven billiard table.

This topic never fails bring the fish stories out of the woodwork. I'm not trying to call anyone in specific a liar, but I'd love to be able to compare all the claims in this thread with the actual truth about how many racks each player has legitimately run in a row. I think the exaggeration rate has to be somewhere in the 20-100% range. Unfortunately the actual truth is generally totally unavailable, the fish stories are all we have to go by:rolleyes:

IIRC, Bob Vanover ran 11 racks in two matches during the Texas Open at Eric's in Austin TX a number of years ago.

4 racks for me. I did one time see a player about 15 years ago run 10 racks of 9-ball on a bar table for $500 at a bar in Marion, Indiana. His name was Paul (Peru Paul) Bowman. He was the best player I ever seen on a bar box.

I am interested to know what is the highest rack of nine ball you have run in a row.

Larry Nevel once told me he ran 13 racks in a row...and he has done it twice.

I heard from my friend that Neil Feijen has ran 17 racks in a row, which is supposed to be a record.

I watched a match in Japan featuring Pei Wei Chang and this Japanese player whose name escapes me. I cannot remember the exact details but it went something like this: Japanese player ran 4 racks, Chang ran 5 racks, then Japanese player won the next rack, then 4 in a row and won the match 9-5.

Richard

Hey richard I play with Larry nevel every night I go to the pool hall. The other night he ran out 6 racks on me in a row on the big table then.He did not make a ball on the break.I was cold then I ran out and dogged the 9 ball lol I thought to my self i finally going to run out then he breaks and runs out 4 more in a row.I racked so much the other night my back realy did hurt.So out of 11 racks I got one shot.My record run out is 7 in a row on a big table 9 ball.My record run out is 11 straight break in runs on a 7 ft table 8 ball with a plug ball atually done in a tounament. .Also my record 9 ball break with a sardo rack was 6 or 7, 9 ball breaks on a 8 ft table.Record for most jump shots I made in one 9 ball rack on a bar table was 5 in a tounament I never forget it, I beat a realy well knowen WI Player who went for almost 200 bucks in the calcutta he was mad. guys still talk about it.My record is 7 balls on a 9 ball break on a bar box made 6 many times.

We have a realy nice heated verhoeven table at our pool hall I play at .That is one awsome coat rack which is good in WI because it gets cold here.Oow so warm.I would rather have them trade it in for a realy tight 9 ft diamond table so I could watch Larry nevel kick Jeff Carters butt in One pocket.

The best run I ever had in competition is pretty lame since I choked and lost the set due to not being able to handle the pressure. I'm down 4-2 in a race to 6 and my opponent breaks and misses the 4 ball. I run that rack, break and run the next to tie it, break and run down to the 9 in the next rack and my heart was beating so hard and adrenaline pumping so profusely I jawed the 9...lol. All I could think about was the fact that I was about to, essentially, run three racks and have a chance to run out the set.

I suppose the moral of the story is that I suck, and I need to get much, much more competition experience as I have a really hard time handling the pressure.
