Hire A Woman

What Purses?

Being that the WPBA has been around for over 20 years and pays by far the largest purses, why don't the men get together and hire a few of their past board members to lead them in the right direction? If this means a woman on top, so be it. . Johnnyt

Johnny, why if the WPBA pays the largest purses in pool, is there 14 man ahead of Allison Fischer on the pool player money list for 08'. Just because the WPBA has been doing it for twenty years doesn't mean they are doing it right. The reason they never announce the purse in the WPBA is the purse stinks, after twenty years of being in business the purses should be much higher. if you ask me they are actually failing the woman pool player.

Remember, it isn't hard to do a much better job than the men and it still not be a very good job.

The majority of the winnings by the men ahead of Allison are from tournaments outside of the US. Allison's 36+ is very respectable.

If your talking SVB, he played in 3 times the tournaments Allison has so far this year. I believe that the purse for each stop on the WPBA tour is about $100,00, with 1st getting about $14,000 and second getting about $8,000. Also they pay deep into the 64 players. Johnnyt

I've done some research, and the WPBA and the men's assocation at the time (MPBA I think) actually teamed up once, in the early nineties. They pooled their money together and formed the PBTA, which was created by some of the men, the women, and Harold Simonsen from Pool and Billiard Magazine. (some of this is from the famous New York Times article on Ewa Mataya back in 1992.)
When the men decided they wanted more power because "the play better" (that was actually in one of the articles I read, either a Digest or a Pool and Billiard) the women pulled out and started the Classic Tour which was based on the same idea that they were going to try to bulid for both the men and the women.
There was a big war also, once Don MAckey got involved as the commissioner of the PBTA.
