Hmmmm.... What Would JUDE Do???

Frankly, Jay & Brian...The Garbageman would have never left those balls like that from the outset. He would have made the nine on the break, collected his money, and drank another Miller High Life !

Truth is, The Garbageman never thinks about anything except the next shot. He believes in his mind that he can get on the next ball no matter where that ball lies.

Would I lie to you !.......lol !

I don't think there's anything to weigh in on. I lost the game BECAUSE I played safe. I wasn't positioned well to make sure the safe was tight and allowed a ton of kicking room. Jay, you're free to not agree with me. Nobody said we have to play the same.

I believe he shoulda tried to get out. When your oppenent is that dangerous and you have a chance to get out you have to try. If he misses he losese if he makes he wins. At least he had a chance to use his knowledge and talent to win instead of sitting in the chair and losing.

Understood a perfect safety probably wins too but a perfect safety there is harder than pocketing the eight IMO.

Are you referring to me, sir? I was the one who mistakenly played safe there.

I'm saying in general. But if you wanna get up there we can play some.

Well, there aren't very many good safety plays here. With BIH, you can probably muster up something better. The question all boils down to, do you want to gamble with the break out or do you want your opponent to? To an extent, who you're playing should factor into this decision.

Yes, it is true that you should always factor in who you are playing. But assuming that I'm playing someone better than me, I'm thinking that running out here is overall going to be to my advantage -- not only in winning the game -- but putting pressure on my opponent so that they KNOW that I am capable of getting out even when I have to break up a cluster.

Also, even if I don't get the break-out...more than likely I'm thinking that I'd still have a chance at executing some type of safety.

Well...from a left hander perspective...I would have played safe on just about anybody there.

I am farily confident I would be able to wedge the CB in to where your only kick is going to be to the opposite end of the table.

to add to that...........for a left hander to try the ticky would mean either streching way out over the table.....or getting the rake..

As Jude pointed out in the outcome shows...if you don't freeze them to the back of the ball (or at least take away the side rail)......there is a good chance of selling out

What happened to Jude is basically the equivalent to dogging a ball your supposed to make...Basically he dogged the safe (that he is supposed to execute)........and it cost him.

At least he recognizes his error..

Most people (especially when better player is playing a lesser players) will bith and moan the "you got lucky" ...or you see them make a guesture or sound like ....Shhhhhhht.....UGGGG ....JEEEZ......OMG or some sound along those lines that are internationally known as "you got lucky" The thought that goes through my brain when I hear that comment after "getting lucky" is......"Well you left me the opportunity to get lucky"....

Well, running out is ALWAYS to your advantage. If you can run out, you do it. The real question you should be asking yourself is whether it's worth the risk. Now, if you're the type of player that is confident you can handle the cluster, by all means, go for it. If you feel your opponent can handle the cluster, you may be forced to try. If you don't feel confident handling the cluster and you think your opponent is no better, you should let them have first stab at it.

Yep, I understand what you saying. I think that for me, I tend to be fairly confident about executing at the table, and with a single cluster on the table, I almost always feel that I have a good chance to break it up at some point during the run and get out (not that that always happens) -- so I guess that I would be considered a very aggressive player then.:D But your points are well taken.

Is it on?

I wanna gamble with the person who plays safe there.

So is the match between you and Jude gonna happen or what?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Sitting at the hospital, waiting on my son in surgery (cut his fingers, did some tendon damage), saw the BUMPED Jude thread and went back and looked at others.

I miss Jude posting.

This is the type of information that is lacking these days on AZ, imo.

Me too. He had a lot to offer, and shared a lot here. I just noticed SJM posted a cue-table thread yesterday with a "what would you do". He's another valuable contributor here that has reduced his activity, but I always know when I open one of his threads it will be good.

Lately I've found myself doing most of my reading in the Straight Pool Forum. It seems to be the most focused on playing the game.

I will have to look through that section more often, Thanks.
