HOF Question

By now everyone knows I am opposed to active players being inducted. I am curious, what other sports will induct a current top ranked player into it's hall of fame. I know for sure that most have a time limit after retirement before they will even be nominated. I remember last year someone wanted Deuel on the ballot. Hell, I've got socks older than him. Anybody know another sport that does this, I am just wondering?

The only exception I can think of is the Ladies Professional Golf Association, where automatic entry criteria exist, enabling a player to qualify for the LPGA Hall of Fame while still active.

According to LPGA.com, entrance to the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame is limited to LPGA Tour members who meet the following criteria:

1. Must be/have been an "active" LPGA Tour member for 10 years:
2. Must have won/been awarded at least one of the following - an LPGA major championship, the Vare Trophy or Rolex Player of the Year honors; and
3. Must have accumulated a total of 27 points, which are awarded as follows - one point for each LPGA official tournament win, two points for each LPGA major tournament win and one point for each Vare Trophy or Rolex Player of the Year honor earned.

The LPGA does. Oddly enough, it might be the fairest of the HOF criteria, as there is a specific set to qualify. The criteria has changed some, but all in all, it's still performance-based.

The basic formula is that once the golfer has played the tour for 10 years, the golfer has to win a certain combination of tournaments and majors. The more tournaments they win, the less majors they have to win in order to get in and visa versa. I believe Karri Webb leads the "nearly in" list, has been eligible for several years, though she has to wait until next year to get her 10 years in. Se Ri Pak has also just recently qualified IIRC, also having to wait several more years for her 10 year tenure.

Annika Sorenstam just this year or last year was "inducted" to the Hall of Fame.
