Mika and Thorsten Spread Billiard Knowledge in Korea
Thorsten Hohmann and Mika Immonen gave a 5 hour course to many Korean fans and players at Main Billiard Club in Incheon , Korea. Immonen had just won the Korea Pro Tour Championships the day before defeating World Champion Ronnie Alcano in the finals, and Hohmann stayed also to instruct in the Predator Clinic.

The Korean students enjoyed the lessons as well as having lunch with the two champions and getting to know them better.

Hohmann had the luxury of having a Korean giving German translations and Mika spoke in English with a Korean translator. Special thanks to Dae Hong (Josh) and Seong Min Lim.

"I really had a good time. It was an enjoyable experience teaching and they seemed very receptive to what we had to offer. " said Hohmann.

"Well, now that we've taught in Korea, I feel confident in being able to teach in any country. Pool is easy to translate when you have something valuable to offer and a student who is thirsting for knowledge." said Immonen about the experience.

Thanks once again to Predator Products for their contribution in enabling this to happen.

Was that on tuesday or wednesday? I'm so depressed if it was wednesday, that's my day off!

Thanks for the great pictures, Charlie. How popular is pool in Korea? How about with the women? How easy is it to find a translator? And do you see any up and coming great players?

There's a korean kid named EeGang (hope that's the right spelling, and I don't know his surname) 16-17 years old. He's in NYC right now (I was wondering where he had gone, I just found this out tonight), and apparently he just took 2nd at the Junior Nationals. Very nice kid and really enthusiastic.

Pool is pretty popular here. 3 Cushion and 4 Ball (korean billiards) are more popular. There is a 3C/4B hall almost on every corner. There are three within a block of my apartment. They always have at least one pool table, but it is normally in horrible condition. Pool rooms are a little harder to find.

I'd say pool is more popular with women here than in the States. I was at a big handicapped amateur tournament a few months ago and it was at least 1/3 women. They didn't have to offer any extra handicaps or reduced entry fees to get them there either. I know one Korean professional woman player in my area plus there are Cha YuRam and Cha BuRam and of course Kim GaYoung.

I don't know anything about finding a translator. I've learned enough Korean to get by. Most younger Koreans (under 35) know some English. Many can't speak it very well, but they can usually understand it.

Both Thorsten and Mika are class acts. I think the students would have learned a lot ,irrespective of the language barrier.
The predator pro school is something special. I hope there will be more.
