I usually use the bright white, at full brightness... the photo's make it look harsher than it really is, although some of my friends prefer the more yellow light.... either works very well... and I don't have any trouble falling asleep after playing, although I rarely have any trouble falling asleep....
 
Both designs (inlaid & copper accents) are pretty cool. I like them both.

I have a 10’ carom table and plan to do (2) of 2x4’s too.

Was wondering what’s the benefit, other than look, of:

1) just installing bare panels
2) boxed in:
A) shallow box: with or without grids
B) deeper box and mount panels up top

For my 9' table I prefer the 1"x 8" box with the light panels mounted at the top.
This directs the light directly downwards.
The grate really isn't required for function or diffusion on the table itself; however, it does have a role when sitting in a chair and looking towards the light.

Did you paint the table cover yourself? Looks super cool.
