I am going tomorrow to get the material to make a ball polisher. Is there a certain size sander or polisher that I should get? Does the back of the sander rest against the bottom of the bottom bucket? Any other things I should know?

I want to polish our pool league balls, in the bar, but man they are dirty as hell, do you clean them first? If so with what?

Thanks

You need the 10" random orbit polisher. Are you building the ForceFollow ball polisher? I made one, it works great

The 10" polisher you buy at Home Depot is a perfect fit for the orange Homer Buckets. Made by Ryobi and should cost $29.

CAUTION!!!! Check the diameter of the top of the bucket if you buy it from Home Depot. My advice would be to go to Home Depot and Lowes (There is a Lowes right across the street in most cases) and measure the opening of the 5 Gallon buckets because there have been some buckets that are a little smaller than others(seen this with my own eyes).

In addition to the threads here, there are some great videos on YouTube about the homemade ball polishers.

does it matter what design of carpet you get, patterned or same color, or dark colors? I have leftovers of a carpet, but it has patterns, will the patterns of different colors rub off on the balls when polishing?

Hope this works for you  The bar I play trnys at sometimes, throws theirs in the dishwasher

The particular carpet you use shouldn't matter. The pattern/color will NOT come out of the carpet.

Only consideration: If you use real light colored carpet, after a while, it WILL show the dirt you're taking off of the balls.

Yeah, I saw the same thing when I made mine last year. Also, beware of the 4 gallon buckets. Same height just smaller inside.

I actually got my buckets from the Grocery Store in the Bakery Section. Just went back and asked if they had any buckets. She handed me 2 recently cleaned Icing Buckets that worked perfectly!

We want to see the final product!

Do Not Do This

I have a friend that decided to use his brass tumbler ( he reloads everything) to polish the balls. well.....he didnt change the media he was using.....some kind of ground up nut shells......needless to say, the oil from those nut shells sure made them balls talk funny......LOL
