Not sure if this is a great idea or an incredibly stupid one. Wine bottle cork …..

A little criticism if you dont mind....
It would be ok in a hard shell case. But I wouldn't depend on it in a soft case. The joint protector does one main thing... to keep the pin from bending in a mishap. It does this by being able to screw down tight to the collar of the joint. It uses the collar for support. If afraid the cork isnt ridged enough to do the job.

Here would be something that might be plenty tough enough and would be cool as hell... Deer Antler.

It doesn’t leave residue on the pin but don’t unscrew it over a table (not that anyone will ever try this silly idea).

Agreed it’s not strong enough to save the pin in a mishap.

Stupid idea. I suppose I just demoted my standing here on AZB.

I don't think it's a stupid idea. My opinion about joint protectors is that they protect the pin threads which are fairly fragile from getting dinged while moving the butt around without the shaft attached. I am always nervous about this when building cues and have a ton of scraps of wood I have threaded to always keep them protected as I handle the butt. I would use that unless you have something better. It isn't genius but it's better than leaving the pin out in the air.
