Without a second thought

I would probably sprain my wrist grabbing my wallet. I never liked that Dmaker guy much anyway. He's always messing with people on internet pool forums and he probably didn't appreciate the cue anyway. Someone else mentioned that he was most likely intoxicated. And like we learned in another thread we should have no tolerance for drunks (or junkies). If we had taken the opportunity to get rid of DM last week we wouldn't even have to hear him bellyache about the stolen cue anyway.

If I thought it might be stolen then I would probably try and get the seller's info in order to set up a "buy" later. Then I would make some calls to find out about the cue. I might even ask if I could photograph it for authentication purposes. You never know, sometimes thieves are dumbasses. I might even offer a $100 "non-refundable, if I don't buy it" deposit to buy some time to check it out. I figure to get the $100 back if it stolen and I help recover it. And if I don't then I am just out $100 and get a good bump in my karmic bank account.

Basically, "too-good-to-be-true" deals usually are.

Now, if it was a cue worth a couple hundred new that someone wanted $50 for then I'd probably buy it without a second thought and resell it for a hundred if I could.

As for the guy who claims an unmarked Tim Scruggs is his then I would say he is SOL unless he filed a police report and the other guy has no legitimate way to prove his aquisition of the cue. I.E. if the holder of the Scruggs says he bought it after the theft and for far less than market value then it's likely the cue is the stolen one. If the holder says he bought it four years ago then there isn't much the other guy or the police can do about it. Which is WHY I say that you should engrave your social or some other number into the cue under the bumper. 99.99% of thieves won't look here and it's a SUPER EASY way to recover your cue. Remember serial numbers on bikes?

I personally have seen three cues recovered this way. One was from a pawn shop. My friend spotted his cue at the pawn shop. He was sure of it. Instead of telling the pawn shop employee my friend simply went outside and called the police. They came, verified the number that was given to them in the police report when the cue was stolen and then got the information that was given to the pawn shop owner by the guy who brought it in. The pawn shop gave up the cue with no hassle. I never found out what happend to the guy who pawned it.

Hey 12 Squared - all those cues you got from me were hot. JUST KIDDING board. Although I wouldn't be "SO" sure about the COG from the child of the seventies. :-))
