We are HOT right now. Trying EVERYTHING and succeeding. How do you prolong this??? I mean, I don't want the excitement to end, and have to find a "fling" a few months down the road... :p Know what I mean?? I might be getting as bad as some of the posters I just shook my head at not all that long ago...thanks guys.

With every new cue, I paid close attention to how solid it felt, what it sounded like and how the balance felt in my hand. I paid much more attention to the cue and the shot in the beginning and usually played lights out.

So you want to extend the new-to-you cue feeling? Don't become too familiar too fast. Hold the cue the same way and allign the wood grain in the same direction with every shot. Look for a part of the grip that feels different and always know you are holding the cue the same way every time. When we stop paying attention to the subtle elements that make the cue unique, the honeymoon is over.

I knew a national champion pistol shooter who said he wanted to shoot his guns dirty. He said he preferred a gritty trigger to a polished smooth one. It is about keeping the mind inside the process. Pay attention to every detail, every nuance and your focus will help you perform at your best.

p.s. I have cues by Bill Schick and Richard Black and after years, I'm still on the honeymoon!

Since your also a golfer maybe you can related this to the honeymoon you get with a new driver lol

exactly where I took the term from....so, I know you get it. What's weird is I've never had this effect with a putter. I either like it or not. No putting lights out with a new one and not liking it halfway thru the season...hmmm?

Hadn't thought about that yet. I had Jeff (from Cue Works) put one on once, but the other times I had a couple new ones put on while out of town (couple done by Tiger - booth at APA Nationals, and one by Joe Blackburn at the DCC). I dunno, maybe have Boyd do it, or someone else - guess I'd have to ask around....suggestions for me??

Makes perfect sense...I do concentrate a bit more to see what a half tip does in one situation, and a ton of follow in another. Getting used to it you are a bit more likely to pay more attention to the feel, and results.

But you gotta admit once you are used to the cue and you KNOW what it does when you do this or that - that's a good feeling and confidence booster as well....Maybe I can have BOTH with this one. Thanks for the post.
 
quick honeymoon update...still going at it like rabbits. lol 3 sets to 1 tonight, and the 1 loss had nothing to do with my baby. :)
 
just got my new cue saturday. we spent all day together yesterday and i think i might be taking the day off work today. this could be a problem.

One thing that helps me is to have two shafts and switch between them. Although they are both 13mm, the hit is slightly different (different ferrules), as well as the feel of the finish (one is older, one is newer), and that keeps me feeling like I'm shooting with something "new".

Doesn't mean I don't want more cues though!!
 
The period you're going through is a beautiful thing. I just went through it with my new Rauenzahn.

Now....USUALLY....once the novelty of having a new cue wears off a bit, you'll get back into some bad habits (if you had/have any)...and the adjustment period begins. At least, that's what usually happens with me.

Knock on wood...I haven't had that problem with my Rauenzahn. The cue just feels great, and oddly enough, the balls go where I want 'em to. I guess the previous owner got all the "misses" out of it!! :) (Are you listening, Steve??!! :) :) )

Seriously...congrats on the new cue, and the newly refreshed love of the game. Enjoy every second of it!!

That will do it for sure!

The way I prolong this is by owning and playing with at least 2 nice cues. I'll play with one for a while and then switch to my other cue for a while and it seems that the excitement returns. I use predator shafts on my cues so they play very close to the same. Just a thought.......

I'm experiencing the same thing with a new shaft I just got. I only got to play with it for about an hour, and barely remember the details it all happened so fast.

I've literally been dreaming about it when I sleep, and tomorrow, at precisely 11:05 am we will be together again. This time I'm going to try everything, taking my sweet time and enjoying every second of it....

Yeah, I know what you mean.
