Hoppe Ring Size

Is there a typical size that everyone uses or is it really a personal preference?
 
Here is a thread on the topic that is WAY too long. Ultimately it's up to the customer and/or CM. However, there is a very narrow range of dimention that I think looks good, and I think the rest look horrible. JMO.

Hoppe Ring

Look at any Hoppe cue done by Paul Mottey/James White. I think their Hoppe rings are dimensionally perfect. Chuck

This is what I ended up with. The buttcap still needs to be trimmed up but the ring is at .260.
 
I know the original Rambo's and Hoppe's had the ivory ring right around a 1/4 inch., maybe a little longer, maybe a little shorter. At any rate, the black butt cap was a little shorter than the ivory. There was no bumper but he never used phenolic on the end either. Phenolic chips pretty easily where as the material that he used was more like a real hard rubber or a linoleum material that took more abuse without chipping as easily.

I have wondered in the past if ebonite would be a good material for this application.
