Hopped on the Frey SP band wagon

Bought a Sly. Was told 4 weeks. Took 4plus months. Was not 100% what I ordered. Has a minor area not 100% sanded. Never got a return call.

Nice cue yes. Worth waiting for? .....would not have ordered it.

Some Frey cues are done and ready to ship. That's the way to buy.

That i definately have to completely disagree with. Dont get me wrong Its not good business to be late on a product.

But there is not one dam thing wrong with having to wait for an order if its within the time line that was told. Some times things do happen.

I'm not taking Slys side however. Just making a point because I've been building cues for 10 years, 6 of which i was in a custom shop apprenticing. I have all my own equipment lathes, saws, panto's etc etc.....BUT I work on call in the gulf of mexico....I've stayed out for 10 weeks before on the water.

Cue making is just a side hobby of mine because it doesn't make me a 100k a year lol (i wish it did lol....oneday maybe )

So when people ask me how long I tell them its about a month as well depending (most want sneaky or something just a little jazzed up) as if work is busy it could take me 6 months....it has before

I do stay in constant contact with my friends and customers and let them know and they are of course always eager to get what they want (I make the fanciest duck calls on the planet as well...dead truth) but they all understand my schedule up front.

I'm an extremely busy guy. I have my safety system design, troubleshooting and repair offshore. I teach and build cues here in lafayette, LA. I just started a pool program at one of the nations top 10 public high schools 3 hours from my home......

so if some one ordered a cue and it takes longer, they just already know the chances of that are high.....but not a dam one of my customers have been up in arms complaining about wait times. Like i said though I'm extremely clear as to what can or cant happen.

If they did give me a bunch of chit, I would promptly refund their money and tell them to piss off and I would never do any work for them again.

I am in the right on these things though. When you tell someone something, thats the way it should be....not a bunch of bullcorn excuses.

Basically when someone that knows me especially makes an order and I get it to them in less than 2 months they are always like DAYYYYYUUUUMMMM thanks so much man...because they know it could have taken wayyyyy longer with how busy my schedule always is.

just wanted to make a good example of the other side of "waiting"......and I'm not even bringing up say Southwest or Searing of which the wait list is long long long.....but you wont hear no one *****ing about that, because thats just how it is unless your buying second hand new.

regards,
Grey Ghost

and the TS/Frey sneakys are the holy grail of sneakys in my opinion.....at least to the players that know.

i bet if you took a poll at the derby who makes the best sneaky....

TS/Frey i would not doubt would be number one by a mile.

They made so many its almost a production cue, and man i've seen a ton of them and they all play sweet

Damn brother sorry to hear that. Truthfully first time I've heard something like this from SLY.
I'm a bit disappointed. Can live with it but I expected better. No big deal. I move on.
Just letting others know the time frame commitment is not there. I would have appreciated if I was told it WILL take 4-5 months...not 4-5 weeks. Just be honest and I'm good.

I don't mind waiting for anything....I realize quality and hand crafted things take time. Let me revise what I said... Waiting for the Sly sneaky I ordered was not worth it. Nothing negative was delaying the cue other than it was paid for and higher end cues were ahead of mine. I would have been as happy or happier buying a "READY FOR SALE" Frey.

I got an ivory sleeved big pin sneaky from Frey.... Yes hard hitting indeed.. And yes very slightly thinner... it feels like a dense needle

I have never hit with a TS or Frey sneaky. Does Bob splice his own or use a blank from another maker ? Just curious, something I have wondered about for some time now.

In my collection the Drexler/Bear sneaky might be the best hitting, with the Blackcreek very close. My Hills sneaky plays great too. The Gracio is a bit light for me, but others like it. And almost everyone who plays with my Prather sneaky loves it, but with the ebony I find it's balance is not for a short fellow like myself. I am really looking forward to trying the new Tucker sneaky, it should be here in a few weeks  Depending on who makes the Frey blanks one of them might be next in the collection.

Yeah brother I feel ya, I'm exact same way. I actually did what you mentioned , when ordering my Frey I really preferred just a wood to wood joint ( no phenolic collars ) but I was told none like that are ready and delivery would take about 2-3 months. I said the hell with it just gimme one with the collars!

Does Frey have any custom cues available? Have a family member interested.

Done. It's that simple. I like to deal with talented craftsman that can manage their time ....not car salesman or scape iron dealers. Trust me...I got a lot of unnecessary BS with this order. And I'm a very reasonable understanding person.

My first true custom cue was a Doc Frye. He said it would take x amount of months. Loved the anticipation of the day it would be ready. I still have it from 1965

Thanks man, not sure if you're kidding or being serious lol 😊. What I ended up getting an Ebony into Birdseye ( with black joint collars ) shaft taken down to 12 and a quarter and 21ozs, and he even threw in a set of JP's! I'm happy.

Was serious. Any Frey cue is a nice one. Enjoy that cue.
