Think it was a great decision. Very solid hit. Only thing I would(will) change is the tip. Was never a fan of LePro's to begin with. Think I'll be putting on an Ultraskin Pro when my order gets to me.

If you own one, let me know how you like it.

Btw, it's not his typical new style sp, it's old school Scruggs looking sneaky, no hoppe ring and no phenolic joint. Also signed up inbetween the points.

You my friend have made a very good decision as I'm certain you now know! I actually just bought another one myself. I've made several posts on here over the last week, specifically in regards to Frey SP's. I just bought a new one and take possession within the next week or two and TRUTHFULLY CAN NOT WAIT!!! I'm sure you already know this but if you dont, back in the day Bob Frey literally made all of the Sneaky Petes that came out of Timmy Scruggs' shop!!! How cool is that bro? Think about it, it's a modern day Scruggs even though Timmy has left us!!!!!

You now know this for yourself so this is for everyone else; if at any point you get the chance to play a rack with a Frey SP, Do yourself a favor and just pick that cue up and pump dem balls in!!! , splitting the pocket, and feel the thunder!!!! OK ok, I may be going a little overboard but I really love these cues - could Yall tell? Lol

Anyhow, congrats on your new cue bro - I'm a little jealous but I'll be right there with you very shortly!!!!!

BTW : I think from the factory they come with the hard Triangles and since I was having my shafts taken down to a 12 anyway I got mine with the Ultra skins too ----- I think lol. But yeah, I know it's gonna play awesome with them SKINS!!!!

I have been reading all your posts about them actually. Makes sense. I also did know about Bob making all the Scruggs sneakies.

Just read the other thread about you knowing Leon for the past 20 years. I've been speaking with him the past 3 weeks as I placed an order with him. It's going to be a killer as well, I know he makes some great players and they are so beautiful as well.

I would like to try one of his sneaky petes with the black linen ferrule like the Colonel's!

Call him up, Bob keeps a stock of it for me, he'll hook you up. It's an extremely "hard" hit though, know that going in.

Thanks Colonel! I will call him. I like a crisp hard hit in my cues. Do I need to reference you for the specific ferrule?

No, just specify Black linen Micarta, I'm not the only one that uses them

Yes Leon makes some VERY PRETTY AWESOME HITTING CUES NO DOUBT!!!! I actually just realized reread you first post and had to laugh! I just noticed what you wrote about the joints. It's funny because actually I wanted the same thing! ( I'm assuming you are talking about the big pin with the wood to wood joints ?) That's what I wanted BUT with the woods I selected I was told they were not in stock ( the cues already made - not the woods themselves ) so if I wanted it that way it would have to be made. ( I got the ebony into birdseye ) and that he was pretty busy right now so it would take 2-3 months before delivery . So I decided to just take one that was in stock. I figured it this way, I'm gonna take this one and gonna being having a semi custom made anyway in the very near future so I'll just worry about it then and I'm more than happy with what I just purchased!!

So in regards to Leon; this is kinda funny, way WAY back in the day he and I used to play out of the same bar when I was like 15-16. It was called Nani's as I mentioned earlier. It was AN AWESOME action spot back in the day. They had maybe like 12 bar boxes or so I think. There was a challenge table that stayed busy from like 6pm thru closing time. Plenty of times he and I would tangle on that table. If I remember correctly the challenge table was normally $5-$10 a game. You could make some really nice scores by just staying on that table all night. Well, when he and I would be in there on the same night between he & I we would pretty much dominate the challenge table. Sometimes to the point if we had quarters up it would bust up the game so when that would happen he and I would just jump on another table and gamble heads up for $20 a game or so and boy did we have some battles with one another!!!! It was right around then he had just started making cues. Everything he made a new cue he would bring it in and play with it and ultimately sell them whenever possible. Each cue he made and brought in I would always play a few racks with it. I could tell even back then he was making some awesome hitting cues!!!! As time progressed you could tell he was gaining experience, knowledge, skill, and ultimately confidence . You can see the level of cues he's putting out today - art that plays great in my honest opinion.

I will add this, Leon is actually a really good guy and can whole heartedly recommend dealing with him. Not only because of the beauty and quality of his cues, but because he is an honest person and actually delivers what he promises and WHEN he promises!

Yes it is a wood to wood joints with the big 3/8 x 10 pin. Yes, along with admiring Leon's work for some time, I've read a ton about him all positive and that was one of the main reasons I choose him. Cool story bmore.

Thanks Greg! Check this out , it has been quite some time but I remember back in the day his cues started out costing between $120-$150!!!!! ( SP's of course lol! )

Honestly, one of the best hitting cues I've ever hit a ball with was a SLY. One of my best friends owns an auto shop and he's known Leon for quite awhile too. We'll Leon needed a bunch of work done to his Diesel truck and my friend does awesome work and specializes in diesels so they agreed to do a trade. He made him a $3k MONSTER for the work on his truck. It took the better part of a year ( which was totally fine because they agreed he would work on it when he could so it wouldn't push any of his customers orders back and it really was quite involved cue. I'll tell you what though, when he came to drop that cue off ALL of our jaws just hit the floor ! !!! Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it! Like I said too, bar none has to be one of the best hitting cues on this planet!!! He truly is a very talented artist!

Bought a Sly. Was told 4 weeks. Took 4plus months. Was not 100% what I ordered. Has a minor area not 100% sanded. Never got a return call.

Nice cue yes. Worth waiting for? .....would not have ordered it.

Some Frey cues are done and ready to ship. That's the way to buy.

Does Frey have any custom cues available? Have a family member interested.

Damn brother sorry to hear that. Truthfully first time I've heard something like this from SLY.

No idear . I bought mine from Frey's authorized dealer right here on AZ. Gene ( AZ handle - gkloop ) I'd hit him up, he should Def know and he was a real nice guy and an absolute pleasure to deal with. GL!

.

I have had one for 8 months or so and really like it. Mine has a solid hit also and is well-balanced. It is slightly softer hitting than my Schon and Joss and the butt is slightly thinner. Mine is 19 oz with no weights.

I may have to try one of the harder hitting models. :D

I live less than an hour away so I picked mine up. It was fun to meet Bob, who is a really nice guy.

Frey does custom cues. I think he typically has a couple in process. Check out his website: http://freycues.com/custom-cues/
