Blueberries
Blueberries is a 2-player game designed for a Cut Throat ball set, where balls are not numbered but are of 3 different colors. These rules assume a set where one color is blue. The blue balls are reserved and are dubbed Blueberries, the players each select one of the remaining colors. Play order is by consensus of the players, and balls are racked with no ball touching its own color, the breaking player’s color at apex.
The object of the game is to score more points than the other player, by pocketing the blueberries. Blueberries are worth 1 point each, except the last one, which is worth 2 points, however, players must shoot their own color balls first, until these are all pocketed and the player is free to shoot blueberries. Scratching or hitting a wrong color ball first is a foul, resulting in loss of turn and ball-in-hand to the next player. Player balls or blueberries pocketed on a fouled shot are spotted. Otherwise, play continues as long a the player pockets either his own color or a blueberry.
Players may pocket blueberries off combos, as long as the first object ball they hit is their own color. Any blueberry pocketed early (before that player has cleared their own colored balls) awards a point, but is then spotted at the end of that player’s turn. Blueberries pocketed on a shot that fouls are spotted, but do not award a point.
Once a player clears their own color off the table, they shoot exclusively at blueberries. Blueberries are no longer spotted when pocketed by either player (except on foul), and the last blueberry pocketed is worth 2 points instead of 1.
Blueberries can be played as a single game, or continuously. If played continuously, the player sinking the last blueberry breaks the next rack.
Note: I based "Blueberries" on "Romanian Pool" rules posted here by "Rubik's Cube". We've been playing it for a while now and it seems to us be a pretty good game for us beginners - Would love to hear what others think of it!
