"House" rules

I was told last night by a player that I'm the "...perfect example of someone who doesn't follow house rules."

I went to a place I don't normally play. I play with three different people and accept any rule changes they throw at me for about 6 hours straight. I played every variant of 8-ball imaginable, 9 ball with a break box, ten ball, one hole... whatever the table holder wanted. As I'm leaving, the last guy I was playing told me I don't play by house rules...because I quit after a my last game, instead of announcing beforehand that I needed to go. What?

We weren't even gambling. Am I going crazy?

I consulted my usual source for difficult questions like these and this was the answer I received:

In all seriousness though...I've heard them all too when it comes to house rules. My favorite was being informed that it was "understood" that any time you gambled on 8-ball that it was always last pocket 8 ball.

This was of course after I had won the first rack ...and didn't use the last pocket.

A few years back I played an 8 ball tournament in a local bar, some friends of mine told me about. They went on to say that there was a guy there who wins every week, and I should go take him on,so I go and win, it was 10 bucks a man there's 30 or 35 guys,I collect my money and go to leave and the guy who is accustomed to winning every week turns to me and says are rule here is whoever wins has to buy everyone that was in the tournament a drink,I just said wow,I don't remember how many people stayed till the end but that rule cost me $230.00 bucks

I think the "House Rule" at my place will be that I get half of all gambling winnings. I will take on anyone that wants to play for any amount of money in any game they can come up with. Anyone?.....Anyone???...

House Rules
1. You do not talk about house rules
2. Never posted, so you can never be challenged
3. See rule 1

House rules should be dictated by the one running the house I.e. The owner or his staff
Any other house rules are just drunken rules:)

If you weren't playing for money, it makes no never mind. If you don't hear it before you hit your first ball, it don't exist;)
