Update on Randi

" Saturday, March 28, 2009 4:19 PM, EDT

Randi, unfortunately, has been admitted to the hospital again. She was admitted on Friday due to severe dehydration. The doctors have managed to get the dehydration under control, but her white blood cell count is dangerously low. They cannot let her go home until it goes up a bit - allowing her to be able to fight any germs that you and I wouldn't even sneeze at.

Right now, everything is stable, except the blood count - which is due to the Chemo treatments. The doctors will be evaluating the Chemo drugs and all of her medications to make sure everything is at the correct dosages for Randi. She should be able to go home on Monday.

Stay tuned for any updates. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes!!"​

sad to hear this as it is a hard road to travel on, but if anyone has the grit to fight this, she does. my mother has been battling the same and the bad days come more than the good, but positive thinking and strong support goes a long way and I hope she knows there are many that are wishing her well.
 
Our prayers are with you guys!.....My Mom is a retired RN....She always said the ones that get through this see themselves beating this thing. Envision being healthy after all the treatments are done! Miracles happen every day.....no reason one of them can't be yours!

I copied this from the CaringBridge webside regarding Randi:

"Okay. This is what I know:



Randi’s PTINR levels are too high which means that her blood is too thin. She was given plasma on Sunday and the overall trend is that it is coming down. (It went up this morning, but her Doctor expects it to continue down)

Her calcium level is too low. She has been on oral supplements, but they are not working well, so they have changed to IV. Expectations are that this will help.

Her Kreatine level (kidney function) is coming down. This is good news. It means that her body is starting to do it’s job again on it’s own.

Her white blood cell count is elevated. This means that she probably has an infection somewhere. She is not exhibiting any fever, so it’s not a bad infection. They are keeping her on IV antibiotics just in case.

Her hemoglobin and red blood cell counts are increasing on their own. This is another example of her body taking over it’s job again.

The doctor says that she is beating the cancer.

Overall, this is all good news.

The bad news is that she is giving up. Her doctor has doubled her anti depressant medicine to try and help.

I would like to encourage everyone to reach out to her and tell her to fight. Give her things to look forward to. We need to reinforce that she CAN make it through this. If you can send cards or a letter, or give her a call, that would be wonderful!"



I don't know who wrote it but is sure sounds like we need to get behind Grady and Randi .. right now!

Thank you, one and all for the wonderful encouraging thoughts. I just read everything to her and I must say it lifted her spirits,as it has mine.

Grady, my sympathy to you and Randi for all that you're going through with this illness.

Please tell Randi that she CANNOT give up the fight. Where there's a will, there's a way. There's too many people in and out of the pool world that appreciate her kindness and look forward to seeing her smile. We're not giving up on her so she better not give up on us. :angry:
 
I met you and Randi at the Superman classic and you were both very open and nice. Randi is loved my many. Maybe the worst part of the big C is the depression that it seems to carry with it. My wife has survived two bouts with it through here beliefs in Spirit.

Give Randy my best. I went through the cancer battle myself and it isn't easy AT ALL. Just tell her to stay strong and focus on whipping it's ass everyday! She can do it!!!

Please pass along all our best wishes for a quick recovery. I don't believe I ever met your wife but, have spent time at your room in Lexington. Our prayers are with you both.
 
Randi, you of all the women I have met in my life are strong enough
to fight this crap disease.

Kick it's azz, you just need to fight for today and then the tomorrow's
get easier.
