How About Those Lepro Tips....

I started playing pool about 8 years ago...I started with a players cue, LePro tip...Then as I got better, the really good players started giving me advice. The advice was, get a layered tip. So they had me try Sumo, Water Buffalo, String Ray, Moori and so on....Finally settled on Moori Med....Been using one for 4 years now. But lately don't like the way they are hitting???? So I tried a Triangle and did not like it. O.K., but not what I wanted. So today a friend put a Le Pro on and I shot for 1 hour and it felt great. I loved it.
Anyone else out there use a LePro??? And what do you guys think of LePro tips??? I never see LePro tips mentioned on this forum....Just wondering........
 
Lepro tips are the most common of all tips and are still the most popular tip I install. Here's the deal; play with what feels the best to you.
 
I think Le Pro is the "Ford Taurus" of tips :) Very useful, nothing fancy, get the job done, don't cost much, last a long time.
 
The problem with those tips is they are irregular in the box. You can get a super fine one, then a disgusting one. The bests play great.

Whatever feels good to you.
 
The problem with LePro tips is that they are inconsistant...tip to tip. It sounds like you were lucky and got a good one. GOOD LePros are hard to beat, IMO.

The layered tips are fairly consistant, tip to tip.

Le-pro tips are good if the person who's putting it on, knows how to tell if the tip is a good one or not.

I've had some that started out good, but ended up crapped after scuffing it up several times.

Now, i am using Triangle's and its the same thing. The first one i had put on, was more towards the soft end. But i liked the way it played.

I just scuffed it up pretty good so it was taken down a bit. The new one i have on my cue is alot better. Some times it kinda hit or miss.

I know some guys who stick with Moori's only, hey more power to them.

I know others who stick with the simple Triumph's or Triangles or le-pro's.

I've used Moori's and liked them alot, except for me, they seemed to glaze over really quick. So i was constantly tip pik'n the hell outa it.
 
LePro's are good tips. But I agree with the above comments. They are inconsistent, and after some play, most need to be trimmed once or twice to get rid of the mushroom, then they play great.

I've heard some cue repairmen hammer their Le Pros on a steel block, until they achieve the desired hardness on the durometer. I'm guessing this would cut the mushrooming and give some consistency to the actual hardness of the tip (as opposed to the rated hardness). I haven't tried this myself, but I have put on Le Pros only to immediately cut them off and try another one. If they won't cut down to a smooth finish, they'll never perform well. If the texture is grainy or nappy, off they come. I figure they're like kids: if they don't get off to a good start, they're messed up for life ;)
