How big of a "pool sin" did I commit???

The biggest sin you committed was entering a "no safety" tournament. What a joke.

Years ago I was in a team 8 ball tournament with the APA. They have lots of rules and it makes most thing pretty cut and dry as far as what's aloud and what's not.
This was around my sixth time at a Citywide level event and it must have been the opposing teams first. The deer in headlights look kind of gives it away.
During my match my opponent was deciding on a shot when his over excited team mate shouted out "GO FOR THE ONE!!". She instantly knew she was not supposed to do that and turned a nice shade of red. After that rack was finished I very kindly let her know what she did was wrong and that I didn't call a foul on her but many others there would have. I told her if you really want to make a suggestion to your player just announce that you are calling a timeout before telling your player what to shoot. She turned red once again and apologized for her outburst.
I could have played by the letter of the law and gotten ball in hand for that coaching foul but I don't need that to win matches. Even though I would not have been wrong in doing so.
I have been playing for a long time and have seen a lot of messed up rules and lot of people who follow the rules and people who use the rules. I knew a team that highlighted rules in their rule book to be used against other players. They knew them by heart but for some reason didn't know how to properly keep score!
I prefer to be the better player. Have a good understanding of the rules before starting any tournament or league play. If someone does something wrong say foul. Don't jump out of your seat screaming FOUL and pointing at the table. You don't know if your opponent knows the rules fully or not. Don't assume they are intentionally trying to cheat you. They could be newbees and don't know any better.

Thanks everyone for the comments.. As I said I KNOW i was wrong in interfering
in the match. It's possible the guy would have given him the game anyway, but
NOT likely. It's just a small regular weekly tournament in a small bar in a small
town with the same 12-20 amateur players every week. It happened in a split
second,I blurted it out and immediately regretted it. But what was done was done
and I couldn't undo it. I offered to forfeit my share of the pot. I don't know what more
I could have done. As bad as it is going to hurt I guess I at least owe Tyrone an
apology. We've had HUGE spats before and he always gets over it.

I appreciate all the reassuring comments, as well as the negative ones.
I assumed I would get a fair amount of slamming but never thought I'd be
accused of not knowing how to spell "rules".
Done it before, and learned.....bet you won't do it again. Rules are rules, and Tyrone could have acted on it and called it a loss. I would not have, especially realizing that it was his first time and not used to the rules give him a free ride, but not the next time.... but not everybody is as forgiving...Want to upset him next time? Play a "safety" on him, without calling it a safety. If the situation is there for one, and you just don't want the next shot....call the ball that you are going to make at another pocket, when you make it, turn to him and say...."damn it, wrong pocket, your shot!"

Just came across this post, I have 2 comments:

1) you were wrong and know you were wrong when you interfered in their game, but you already know that;

2) Did you happen to have your cuz in the calcutta? If so your actions were diabolical and your nutz should be cut off. LOL

Carry on :)
