How Did Tony Ellin Die?

For the record it was not the same event.

Varner won one and the other one was won by Lebron over Buddy Hall
I am pretty sure.
What I am sure about is that Lebron started the week at 40-1 to win with it being booked by Vegas. The event was in Vegas.
In the finals he was still 20-1 or so.

I can remember Buddy missing an easy 2 ball in one match that looked funny.
I asked someone who would know and he said it was a dump amonhst all the guys. There were only I think 8 people in the event.
The guy I asked made money on this and not just a little.
Vegas has since to book pool.

It happens more than people think even on smaller tournament levels.
Another thing you can watch for is players cutting savers. I used to
make alot of money after the first few games of matches because
I would guess a saver had been made. What it does is that the person
losing almost gives up because he has part of the guy beating him and
the match gets out of control. It happened this weekend in San Diego
as a matter of fact.
Until the money gets better its gonna happen. Hohman was 1000-1 and he won.....err I mean he came out in first place!!

The one thing that has always made me wonder is that the better players
should make the dump look better. Would Ellin have missed an easy 5 or another shot? Would Buddy have missed the cut on the 2 against Lebron?

I have been witness to a classic dump in the south once and if I had not known beforehand I would have never known. It was two very good regional
players and they dumped a hill-hill match.
I have not seen anything other than savers in the last couple years. Well that and some very well kown gamblers playing sets and taking off the rail.

I will very seldom ever bet on a big money match again on the side. That was insane. 2 guys played and a couple more worked the side action byt the
game and set. They basically just split the up money from the side bets
and if one side got real heavy they would lose the other way and split it later.
I saw it twice with mostly same people.
Its gambling...you have to be careful

Frank, do the newbies a favor, explain to them, what favors are, why, how they are used, some do not know.

There are going to be a lot of gamblers running these cons in these events setting up the local fans who are not going to be too wild about this all coming out, so the ones who start going off on this, those will be the ones. Remember what Fatty taught me, never wize up a chump, never give a sucker an even break, put them all in Hungarian mortal locks of which they cannot escape. Be a locksmith my boy, all the sausages get to do is lose, they never get to win, that is reserved just for us.

tremedous heart and wanted to win. The one thing I always liked about him was that he surrounded himself with the better players. I heard him ask JA
a lot of question a couple times after a match to get his opinion.
If more younger players would do the same the learning curve would be cut
way down.

I showed up at the BCA show in Vegas this April, to entertain, do shows, take on all challengers, defeated two tour pros, on ranked top 20's, other low 30's. I showed up in your back yard in DC a few weeks ago and taught for a week, hows that one for a no show pal. I even caught one of your ex students, took a long time to straighten out the mess you made.

Oh Kent, that lame sign off, master poker, you sit there and just keep folding until you get wired and then bet your ass off and pray nobody else got wired, real skill, right. That pales in comparision to pool skill.
In non TV games, most are won by cheating, by card mechanics, who are so smooth and good, they are virtually un detectable. Or when you are not looking they swap decks, one loaded. In a game once I was dealt 4 jacks and folded, thank god I smelled that one, could smell the hustler, he won with 4 kings, I saw him make the swap, because i am trained by vegas magicians. He and a pal were cutting up 3 others, I just got out and left. Once more you hit me with a downer, every single time, 500 in a row pal. And you wondered why I fianlly came after you.

I watched an Accustats tape of Tony Ellin playing Shannon Daulton. Tony drilled Shannon relentlessly, 11-4 (9-ball).

Anyways, a friend of mine told me Tony died from getting hit by a train. Does anyone know how this happened, what the circumstances were? It's a shame, he was an amazing player. May he rest in peace.

I find it funny how fast you are back pedaling, first you were saying Mr.Ellin was a cheat and once you realized that you didn't know what you were talking about you started saying how much you loved him. I think you should have gotten your facts straight before you put your foot in your mouth once again.

other than to say that lamadamadingdong has smeared a great player in Tony Ellin on this board is an understatement. I wish Mike aka az house pro would delete larry's posts and this whole thread altogether.

But i have to say this. While at a 25k added event put on by mike x in newbedford mass. a few years ago i placed a 300 bet on a Pro Player. the line was the lesser player would not 6. This pro player who was definately alot better asked mike lebron(who was setting the line) where all the money was. Mike replied that all the money was bet that the other guy would not 6. At that time the score was 7/5 in favor of the pro player. Guess what happens. The pro player misses a very makeable 7 ball and scratches in the process giving the weaker player ball in hand on the 8 and he wins that game and 6's. Then the weaker player breaks and makes nothing and the pro player runs te next 4 racks and the weaker player loses 11/6. So in everybodies opinion. Did the proplayer dump the game to let the weaker player get 6 games and let mike lebron reap the profits and maybe give the pro player a cut later.........................................mike
