How do division tournaments payout in your area?

Most tournaments we have are broke down by division (Open,A,B,C,D). It seems like the D division is normally pretty small and the Open division is normally pretty small. The biggest division seems to always be C. I realize that most players probably fall into the C category but no one ever has an incentive to play higher. They always do the payouts either based off the number of teams in the division or they cut up all the money and pay the same no matter the division.

I hate when they pay based off the number of teams in your division. With C normally being the largest why would any teams ever want to move up? I've seen tournaments with pretty good players find a little weaker team to shoot with just so they can shoot C and try to take home more cash.

I'm not a fan of splitting between all the divisions either. I think the higher you play the more money you can make. I really wish one year they would try making the C division and D division payouts in the form of proshop vouchers. If we place "in the money" you get x amount of dollars to one of the vender booths and might be able to pick up a new cue or case or something like that. I feel it gives an incentive to those boarder teams to move up if they want to compete for the cash and from my experience most D players don't really care about the cash at the end, they are there to hang out with friends and have a good time for the most part.

Am I way off base here or seeing things in the wrong light? Do most areas use this same structure?

Before blasting me saying I just think the good players should get all the money, I'm probably a C- player.

Well, not exactly a division tournament series, the Action Pool Tour (MD/VA) divides us up between AAA, AA, A, B and C. We've got a several AAA (pro) players (Jundel Mazon, Mike Davis, Brandon Shuff, Karen Corr, Shawn Wilkie, Matt Krah, Brian Deska, and many others), several AA players (semi pro), mostly A (advanced) and B (Intermediate) players; only a handful of C players. The payout and races are even across the board, the division ratings only make a difference in entry fees. Great format. And, no, the AAA players don't win everything, some of the best cash players over the course of the tour season are actually A players.

If I'm not mistaken I believe he's referring to upper level tournaments, for Leagues such as TAP. Could be mistaken, just guessing.

No Worries, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't confused. It did bring up an interesting point. I won't elaborate at the moment. But, it is related.

Yeah, around here pretty much everything is VNEA and there is very little of anything else. I tend to forget that other areas have more opportunities . :)

I just checked our state numbers for last year

45 teams in D
82 teams in C
31 teams in B
21 teams in A
6 teams in AA

For singles it was

159 people in C
76 people in B
21 people in A
24 people in AA

Divisions

This thread points out many reasons why FargoRate is needed. Players will be playing among their peers. And teams can be within a range.

And this would allow the players to know how they stand in relationship to all other players. Divisions such as A, B, C, or D Etc. Really mean nothing outside of the immediate area.

We would welcome any match records that are available, and will get them into FargoRate. We need full name (obviously), birthdate is nice, city and state.

All we need is copies of tournament results. We also want league results. Become a part of something bigger.

Btw, their are some apps and software being tested that will automatically 'dump'.the info into Fargo.

There aren't tournaments outside of bs leagues where you're at? That's unfortunate. It seems you have enough ppl around to warrant one.

Not many. There is a weekly 9 ball tournament that gets about 20 people other than that none that I know of.

I don't think there are any team tournaments in NYC.

We have team leagues, single player leagues and single player tournaments.

Both leagues and tournaments mix player levels together, but use a handicap.

In tournaments, low handicap players have a lower entry fee to offset the lower chance they have to win the tournament. 2 separate brackets are used to separate high-low players, A-B and C-D. Final 3 players from the 2 brackets meet later in the tournament.

Works well as low players get opportunity to improve by playing better players, creates incentive and a larger pool of money. A format where low players have little chance of winning $ would result in low players not entering, resulting in a smaller pool of money.

Open and pro players have their own tournament separate from the amateurs.

Yeah, it's hard to figure out how you would rate against players in other areas. For example in league I play one night that's A3 division 2, another league I play B, yet all tournaments I either get put in C for singels or D for team ( I have a lot of 2nd year players on one of my teams ). Realisticly there is probably only 1 player in my A-3 leage that would be considered an A player and 2 that would probably be B.

State I finished 25-32 in C for singles, 9-12th in team.

My only other singles tournament was an MPA one

We only have 1 team tournament like that a year and I prefer it. I like shooting some of the top players although I normally get ran over. Other than that we are always broken down to divisions.

There are only a couple singles tournaments in the area a year besides a weekly 9 ball tournament and I'm not a huge fan of 9 ball. This year I only get to shoot in 2 singles tournaments because they scheduled State and MPA at the same time so I commited to state with my team. The other is an Open tournament so I'll probably get ran over unless I get a good draw but I shoot better in singles then I do team.

We have your matches for Grand Falls in. But it's only 13 games in four matches, so not enough. If we started getting your league data in, that would be the nuts for you guys... Like Mark Griffin said, software will available soon that does it all automatically.

One of the leagues I'm in also uses another website that they dumb league information into that's pretty cool. Enjoy my less than stellar year so far. Rough start.
