I know this is gonna sound dumb but here it goes... I just got my first j/b cue today (j&j) and I'm not sure how to use it as a jump cue. Do I just remove the butt of the cue and shoot like that? Or am I supposed to remove the middle section and attach the shaft to the butt despite it being thinner than the butt where they come together?

Lengthwise it feels much better with just the shaft and the butt but I'm pretty sure its not meant to be used that way. It just looks totally wrong. Thx for ur help :)

Break/jump cue

You remove the bottom 1/3 of the cue, and use it like that. It should be around 40" long then. (you can check this on a Barbox by laying it on the cushions widthwise). If you do not know how to jump, find someone that does to show you how to do it. Warning though: Many rooms will post no practicing of jump shots unless it is the week before they recover the tables.

There are 2 ways to jump a ball. With the most common way, which is the stroke method, and then there is the dart method.

I would recommend getting Robin Dodson's DVD on how to jump balls. She is very good, and a good teacher.
