How do you breathe?

God, John Lilly wrote extensively about dolphins
& their intelligence is extraordinary. Besides,
Lilly claimed to have talked to you several
times while in an isolation tank & I believe
him. I'm surprized he didn't tell you about
dolphins.

Hey, I was just kidding Larry. I guess you're right that everyone has to have a team, even if it is the Cowboys! I shouldn't have to tell you about the rivalry between the Cowboys and the 49ers in the '90's right?

I think you should ignore Ken. I don't know why he's got such an axe to grind with you but he does. All I can say is one of you should take the higher road. I think you could do it if you want to. It's pretty hard to argue with silence. You know that right?

Hi, I don't recall John mentioning anything about the dolphins. Anyway, I'll grant that they are pretty intelligent, but as intelligent as humans? Nahhh.

Seek the dolphin that is within you,
God

Wolves (real ones) and alaskan malamutes are smarter than people too.

Here is info on dolphins, taken from the internet:

Dolphin (aquatic mammal), fast-swimming mammal belonging to the order Cetacea, which also includes whales and porpoises. Sleek and powerful swimmers, dolphins are found in seas throughout the world; some inhabit freshwater rivers and lakes. Characteristic features of most dolphins are long snouts with rows of sharp teeth, and rounded foreheads with a nostril on top, known as the blowhole.

There are at least 40 species of dolphins. Dolphins resemble fish in many ways, but they exhibit a number of true mammalian characteristics: They are warm-blooded, breathe air, and nurse their young on milk. Dolphins and porpoises have a similar appearance, but dolphins can be distinguished from porpoises by their more prominent snouts and conical teeth. Porpoises have blunt snouts, chisel-shaped teeth, and a stouter body than dolphins.

Sailors have long considered the presence of dolphins cruising alongside the bows of ships as a good omen and a promise of fair weather. Dolphins also figure prominently in folklore, often appearing in works of art, on coins and currency, and on stamps. Ancient Greek coins depicted the son of Poseidon seated on a dolphin, and the ancient Roman author Pliny the Elder wrote a story of a dolphin that carried a poor man's son to school each day. Many classical writers described how dolphins harnessed to chariots helped maidens in distress. A dolphin was on the coat of arms of the dauphin, the title given the eldest son and heir of the king of France.

btw-just because another species ie wolves, dolphins choose not to communicate with us does not make them less intelligent, perhaps more so. The fact that man thinks that their choice to not talk with us makes them less intelligent emphasizes the arrogance of man.

In the immortal prose of Douglas Adams (HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

"Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much... the wheel, New York, wars, and so on, whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely the dolphins believed themselves to be more intelligent than man for precisely the same reasons."

edit: forgot the quotes. duh

There is also evidence that killer whales are
extremely intelligent but I imagine that they
are kind of difficult to work with. I'll get off
this subject before proplayer asks" What
is this? The Discovery Channel?"

..... I go into resturants down there and da snow bird comes in and looks at da menue and goes, Oh no, Dolphin, I can't eat Flipper. You see God, the proper name of a fish is a dolphin, ....

I believe they now call that fish Mahi-Mahi for that reason.

Well, I guess FL must have gotten bounced again. I just noticed the threads referring to him are gone now. I wonder if Ken got the boot too?

How do you breathe

Just breathe like evry other mortal on this planet; in and out.

Nope. No boots here. Just Reeboks, Nikes and Filas.

Regards,

Ken (lives in the State of boots though)

Hi Ken,

Glad you're still here. Do you know if Scott Lee and halhoule use the same aiming system? I saw you mention it in another post.

I've never spoken to Scott regarding an "aiming system" but have chatted with Mr. Houle a few times.

Houle has 4 steps he will take you through. It involves several concepts, some of which worked and others that puzzled me but it is difficult when you are here and he is there and that "here and there" are two different states.

Many think it's a bunch of bunk while others swear by Houle's system. Many a thread has started and ended regarding the Houle aiming system and most are ripe with name calling, doubts and the rest of the nonsense that can bleed into a true attempt by someone to help another (It has already started: click here and see what I mean: http://www.azbilliards.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1403 )

Mr. Houle is sincere in wanting to help and when the fighting starts, he simply disappears. This is the first time I have seen him post in months. His health wasn't well last time we spoke and I just hope he is better.

Don't ask me to explain the system...I would just butcher it but Hal will talk all day about it one-on-one if you pm him for his number. One thing I do like about Hal...he won't make a bunch of claims that cannot be proven and he will stick with you as you progress/regress without once, calling you a "moron."

Regards,

Ken

Thanks Ken. I appreciate the info. One of the problems with many of the players in this game is that they seem to have an aversion to learning something new. I've seen it repeatedly, especially with the better players. Other sports have coaches, e.g., tennis. Every top tennis player has a coach. How many pool players have coaches? Varner had Hal Nix for a while and he was doing great when Hal was working with him. Something about this game and the players in it tend to think the only person that can teach you something is the person that's taking your money on the table.

Any b ody that has to be thinking about how they breathe when they play pool is a sucker, thank god for suckers, they keep me in the hot tub with hotties at the Mirage. Think about breathing in and how, I almost broke a rib laughin. Like the man said, a sucker is born every minute, that is what I am depending on.

I think the original thread has been taken out of context from an advise on how to manage nerves while taking the shot.

I remember hearing my heartbeat in my ears when I was new to playing money games. I hated the feeling so much that I was always prematurely releasing that stroke just to get over my nerves.

Breathing can help out many players who are going through the same phase as I went through. I see pros taking deep breaths before going down on the bridge.
