How do you feel about Craftmaster tables?

I am looking at this table on Craigslist for our home living room. He says it came with his home a few years ago.

Craftmaster, model unknown. Asking $500OBO. Update: Just said he would take $400 for it.

Any advice to a rookie? I appreciate any help. I have not seen it in person yet. What is this table worth in great condition?

Says playing surface is 8x4.

Looks to be from the Modern Series. Probably a Champion.

I have played on alot of home model tables and IMO most of them are pure junk.Just depends on what you want It for really.More than likely the rubber won't be very good or last very long.It will never stay level. It's probably not very heavy so every time somebody bumps Into It It's unlevel again. But If you don't care and It's just for fun family and kids, stuff like that It might not be a bad price. It looks good anyway but I would be very careful If It were me.Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I am far from a professional. I played a lot of pool when I was deployed but other than that I go to the pool hall occasionally. Most of the stuff you notice, I probably never would. I just don't want to jump into something cheap and junky. Would like it to carry a decent resale value.

I wouldn't buy it. Wait for a better table to come along. Keep up with craigslist list in your area. You should find a Brunswick or a Connelly and maybe even a Diamond. I found a 35 year old no brand name table that is heavy as any table can be and it plays great. It is a 9footer and i pd. 800. Well worth it.
What your looking at i think is made from particle board.
You can also check local mechanics or pool rooms. Unfortunately many are closing. But even if not closing they hear about tables.
Good luck finding a table.

He offered $400. Their website says they have a lifetime warranty, but it's pretty specific and probably won't apply.

Their About section claims they are made of solid wood.

I have been looking on Craigslist for over a week so far and cannot seem to find what you've mentioned. I've seen a Brunswick or 2 but they are 9-foot.

I have a Gandy Big G I will sell you for $500 but you probably live in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Too far for me to mail it to you...lol

For a $400 table, if I decide to purchase, it would be upsetting spending $300+ for a moving service.

We have an F150. How difficult would it be to remove the rails, cloth, and slate, then just throw the cabinet with legs attached into the bed? How difficult to put back together?

Breaking it down and moving it is no problem but properly putting it back together is the problem. Once you get it on site you may want have a table guy put it back together for you. Before you start you have to really assess what you are doing. Screws and bolts are often hidden. Just be sure to mark everything and you should be alright.

Heck, you may even want to do the whole job. One thing, once you have the slates off most of the weight is gone. You can usually unbolt the legs and lift the frame in one piece without any additional disassemble. When you get to the site put it back together. Take care handling the slates they are heavy so have a few friends. They will probably be in three pieces. My wife and I used to handle 300 lb pieces of slate but it is not recommended to just two people.

I should add. Before you buy get under the table and take a good look at everything. If you see partial board and such I would pass..

Not all furniture tables are junk. Craftmaster is american made and makes a above average furniture table. Go check it out and if the cushions are good and its not shaky which you can check by grabbing a corner pocket and trying to shake it. Look underneath the table and decide for yourself if it looks solid as far as the construction goes. I think the price is more than good. The 300 for moving and setup is well worth it if they really know what they are doing. A poorly setup table will not get used. IMO
P.S. i have actually installed more than a dozen craftmaster tables over the years.

Sounds like you've already decided to buy it. Don't. Follow BobRoberts advice and keep looking for something that's worthwhile. Lots of pool tables are being sold in this economy so just be patient. Brunswick, Gandy, Conolly, and Oldhausen are usually well built tables. Don't waste your money on that Craftmaster.

Thanks a lot for all the information. I think if I decide to purchase this one, we will attempt to move it ourselves, then when it comes time to set it up again we will call a professional if we can't manage to do it ourselves.

I'd rather rest assured knowing I'm playing on a table that is perfect and set up professionally.

I'm not one to jump into a big purchase but I am pretty anxious to play, and my brother is driving me up a damn wall wanting to buy the first thing he sees. I definitely don't want junk, but I don't need an expensive top of the line table. I feel this one will suit my needs but I was looking at a nice Olhausen, I believe Drake II, for $500 about a couple weeks ago but it was sold before I could get to it.

I agree 100% with Jim...

So you guys feel it would be worth $700 to get this Craftmaster into our home?

Is $300 about the going rate for table moving? We are only going about 5-10 miles.
If anybody knows of someone reputable in the West Palm Beach, FL area please let me know.

What is the best way to check the cushions? If it wobbles, is this something that can be fixed fairly easily or an instant turn away?

Thanks Pat

Sonic you should feel lucky you didn't get the drake and can now get this one for less.

Really, you'd choose this over the Olhausen for $100 more?

If any of you happen to be bored, here is my local West Palm Beach Craigslist. Feel free to recommend something else, would be greatly appreciated :)

Jeremy Brooks or a guy named Tom Mayberry. I generally go through the phone book and call local poolrooms. Ask them for mover/installers and see whose name keeps coming up.

In my neck of the woods 300 is about right. Bounce a ball between each cushion as hard as you can without throwing it off table and it hits 4+ times they are fine. It will probably not shake to much but if it does the bolts holding the legs on could just need tightening. I believe the legs bolt to a wood block not a metal bracket.
