This may sound like stupid question, but what exactly is running balls...Do you just rack the balls run them out and then rack again..or do you rack the balls before you shoot the last ball in...sorry guys:confused:

You rack the balls before you shoot the last one, than you attempt break the rack while pocketing the ball. If all goes well you keep running balls. Much more difficult than it sounds.

Are you asking *how* to run balls? That is you break, then shoot a ball in, then another, then another...

Also there is a game called "straight pool" or 14.1. With this game, you shoot in all the balls but leave the last ball on the table, then rack 14 balls and use that last ball to break out the rack.

Or are you asking about the term "running balls" or the term "running racks"?

Around this forum, someone may ask "How many can you run?" and they might mean how many racks in a row can you run. That is they break, run in all the balls, break again, then run in all the balls again. Also called break and runs.

Then someone like myself, "How many can you run?", I would think in terms of "balls" not "racks" as I am nowhere as good a player as many on this forum. Although I did once have two 9-ball break and runs in a row, this is not typical for me. I can usually run 6 to 7 balls in a row though.

maybe what you're talking about is running out.
running out would be clearing the table in 7 ball or 9 ball.you break, pocket a ball, continue shooting, clear the table, never giving your opponent a shot.also called running the rack.

in eight ball you would run out the solids or stripes and then pocket the 8 ball.

a run may consist of 2 or more consecutive shots."i ran three balls, then missed."that would be a 3 ball run.

No, I just wanna see how many balls i can run so i can post it

Sounds like you're talking about a high run in straight pool. You rack the balls in a triangle, and then remove the head ball. Put it somewhere where you can make the ball and send the cue-ball into the rack (in the same shot). Now that the rack is broken up a bit, start shooting balls, in any order, taking care to leave yourself more "break-out" shots whenever you need to open the pack up more. You want to make sure the last ball on the table is in a position where you can use it to break the next rack, because you rack the other 14 ball before you shoot the last one down. Then you shoot that ball, hopefully break up the new rack, and keep going. Professionals can often do this rack after rack after rack, sometimes for hours. The rest of us will usually miss before we get past 3-5 racks.

Count each ball you make, but call all your shots. If you call the 15 in the corner, and sink the 15 in the corner, break up the pack, and the 6 happens to drop, you get a point for the 15 and a point for the 6. But if the 15 doesn't go, your run is over, regardless of whether you luck in another ball.

All that make sense? Happy running. You'll soon realize there's a lot of strategy and positioning involved; it's not just a shot-making contest.

Yea Man thanx...Thats kindof what I thought (except I didn't know that you would remove the front ball on the first rack). Thanx for the help guys. I'll be sure to post the score in the AZ challenge thread. Just dont laugh hah!
