Having played with a preferred carbon core LD maple shaft, I was hesitant to go full maple, especially with older shafts from the 80s/90s. It took a little adjusting to the softer hit, but I can attest that Ivory ferrules really have a unique feel. I still go back and forth and am amazed how different they are. The sound is indeed satisfying, but what I most appreciate is the softness on a hard contact really makes for a buttery stroke.
Maybe it is 90% psychological.. I couldn't say. But ever since I found a straight older maple shaft with a pristine ivory ferrule, my game has been more fun and controlled.
For what it’s worth.
