How does a cue play?

best pizza nj and rays' pizza in ny. also cant count out the original mystic pizza on main street in mystic conn. along with the movie.
im going back 50 years though

I just received a trade offer for my favorite cue - a break cue. I'm torn.

I was breaking with a house cue the other day, and I couldn't sink a ball to save my life. With my break cue, I do MUCH better.

Maybe I was just having an off day, but it seems to me that the cue makes a HUGE difference. For instance, I can usually make the cue ball bounce into the air off of the apex ball with my break cue, but I could not make that happen with the house cue. It's like my break cue is a shotgun, and the house cue is a pistol - the same basic thing, but two totally different animals.

The break is a brute force shot that can actually benefit meaningfully from exaggerated modifications (stiffness, tip hardness) that increase energy transfer, but don’t work as well for other shots.

That would seem to agree with what I've experienced with the cue. I tried to use it as a playing cue last week, because I think it's super cool, and I had very mediocre results.

I also just traded it, incidentally. The offer was too good to refuse, but I'm hoping I find an even better replacement, and in any case, it's usually good to make friends happy, and man do they love that cue!

You post is interesting. Recently I got my hands on an old OB-1 shaft and paired it with a butt made for me by a guy here that has a 3/8 x 10 pin its solid wood. That combination plays better than anything I've ever played with. Who would have thought.

I have been looking at cue reviews and come across "This is a beautiful playing cue!" many times! I have invested lots of money in low deflection shafts and most of them are good to their word BUT all play a little differently. I am now playing with regular shafts and once learned do the same thing with some adjustments on my part. Once learned a house cue can play "beautifully"

Isn't it the player that "plays beautifully" and if knowledgeable about the fact that all cues need to be learned can make any cue work?

I think the big difference may be in the cue being a beautiful work of art, not how it "plays" I love cues and have more than I need but can adjust to any of them.

I am serious about what is being talked about when one says a cue plays great.

Thanks.

I have bought most of my cues because of the way they look but I have bought cues because I liked the way they "Played".

I liked two things about the cues I played with, first the way it feels when I hit the cue ball and second the most important thing is the cue ball hits where I was aiming.

What you want in a cue will probably be different and I recommend you buy a cue that feels good to you.

The last time I played pool seriously was at Lambert's RBD in Baton Rouge when Flyboy put out the word that he would play anyone. Lambert was the nicest pool room owner I ever met and he and Fly are at the top of my list of the nicest people I ever met.

I'm not going to mention the name of my favorite cue but Lambert asked if he could hit some balls with it. After a minute he asked Fly to try the cue, then asked if they could buy the cue!

I’m selling all of my collection except my favorite cue which I will give to my son who doesn't play pool.
