I guess I missed this thread. That's freaky to see Heath do the same shots! I hope he says he tried each about 100 times before getting it...

chao is a fantastic player... the only reason he doesnt stand out is because he plays a very calculated game, and makes everything very straightforward. a little boring actually.... lol

In my opinion, he is arguably the best in the world in assessing percentages. he's not exactly the sharpest player; most of the top-draw taiwanese are sharper than him on the long shots... he makes up for it by making his run-out patterns efficient. watch his games carefully n u can see how much knowledge this guy has...

his stroke is ungainly but he can do some technically difficult shots wif dat weird stroke... i understand that he was struggling wif a serious illness a couple of years ago... i dun know how much dat affected his game though... perhaps the taiwanese dudes on the forum might know more...

Hi
Heath had kindly included a short blurp describing everything he did in the original contest thread:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=37837&highlight=cuetable

The second place prize ($150 Tiger Products) for the contest is still available. We will give out additional $150 as a bonus for the first person who can get the full score on a 9 ft table (32 points+9 ft table= $300 Total). I really wish more people can give this a shot!

Think of Heath as example:

1, He has gotten some serious practices for a few hours.
2, He is now more knowledgable about these shots than you or me.
3, He has a good video of himself to show around friends.
4, He's $300 richer than last month.

These are good incentives for everyone to give this a try.

BTW, I had a chance to show it to Chao last week and it's rare to see our "cold-face killer" bursted with laughes. He loves the CueTable show-n-tell idea.

Chao definitely has to be considered one of the best nine ball players of all time, look at the list of players that have won multiple world titles in nine ball and you will find him in some good company;) His break isn't the same as a Wu or Pagulayan but it doesn't seem to slow him down one bit and his control is near perfect. It's too bad we don't see him compete much here in North America but hopefully with the IPT that will chance sometime down the road, same goes for all the top Taiwanese players.

Where does he rank among the world's best?

He's a World champion. Numerically, he is/was #1 in China - population 1.3 Billion. The world only has 6.5 Billion people in it. So, by the same ratio, he is one of the top 5 people alive today. lol.

Seriously, Fong Pang Chao is actually from Taiwan, but he IS one of the top seeded players in any tourney he enters.

How good is Fong Pang-Chao? Nah, he isn't good at all, he ain't all that. Being the fact that he only represents a country, I think that isn't good enough. Maybe if he represents United Nations, he may be considered "good" enough. :D :D :D

Seriously, this guy won WPC, Int'l challenge of Champs, etc. How good do you think he is? Ever think about how hard is it for yourself just trying to win one of the open tournament like DCC or US Open? On a second thought, just try to win a state championship or just a local tournament in your area, where is NOT a handicap tournament, you know how hard that is.

At least he can be placed in the top 5 in his own country. Can you put yourself in the top 5 in your state, or even your city?

I think, correction, I believe Fong Pang-Chao is a very good player, maybe not in Efren's Class but he is definetly in the TOP World Pros category, not some state list.

Just my .02 cents

Steve

Hi,
Just to insert a few tidbits:

His family name (last name) is Chao
His given name (first name) is Feng-Pang (better translation would be Fong-Bong imo). His first name literally means "Enrich the nation" or "Enrich the land" and he has been living up to it.

You can call him Feng-Pang Chao, or Chao Feng-Pang in Asian custom. You can also call him "Bong Go" (meaning brother Bong); he is humble and friendly in person.

He is from Taiwan, a place with 20 million people where billiard is a national wide sport. He does go to China from time to time (he is there right now). It was totally his original idea to have the WPC in Taiwan last year. He is powerful and influential in the Taiwanese pool world.

There has been unsettle political issues between Taiwan and China for the past 50 years, kind of like the east/west Germany scene in the last century except China is 30 times bigger. The size of Taiwan is only about 1/14 of California.

Want to know how good he is? Join our contest...

This guy is one the top 5 nine ball players in the world. I do not remember seeing him in any IPT line up. If he does decide to play in the IPT he will be a threat to win it.

He told me everyone over in Taiwan thought there was something funny when IPT asked for a membership fee and promise that MUCH of prize money. He said he would come here if the condition is still the same the next year.

I have heard from some people from his country that he just doesnt like being in the US-Too much culture shock, the food etc- he can't get used to it. Of course 3/4 of the time he was here, he was at Mohegan Sun. Beside the Casino itself, I dont think you could find a bottle of water within 30 miles of the place.

By the same token, many of the Americans who went to Taiwan for the WPC could not wait to get out of Taiwan. Besdies the bathrooms everything was fine by me. Anyway im glad he is considering coming over for the IPT.

On a separate note- How tall does anyone think Chao is?

He's about 5'9". He has fought through a serious illness a while back. I noticed he has a very slight hunch. However, this could be caused by the late night factor. He looked much younger in person. I had a chance to talk to him over a bowl of noodle soup.

He does look/act a lot like Fay (E's quiet and cheerful boyfriend, probably only Dave and corner people would know who I am talking about):)
