how hard is it

For me it was really hard, but I had to do it for my own good. About 13 years ago I got a DUI. I figured that if I was going to get caught driving it wouldn't be leaving a bar and considering that the only bars I went to happened to be packed with pool tables that meant I was done playing.

Once the year was up and I got my license back I still didn't go back to the pool hall. My phone rang 11 years later asking to help on a league. I went back to playing and realized just how much I love playing. I can honestly say that I love playing more now than I did back then.

I quit for a month, it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. :(

But now I'm back and my future in pool looks brighter than ever.

I had to stop playing for a while after my little guy was born. Just didn't have time to play with an already busy schedule. I'm finally getting back to playing tournaments again. And man, there is no sound sweeter than the sound of a cue ball hitting a rack of balls.

Rocking chair test sir. When your 80+ years old and sitting in your rocking chair. Are you going to have regrets?

For example will you regret you weren't there for your family, because you choose pool over them?

Responsibilities first, sir! You can always play pool once they're squared away.

I gave up pool for my daughter and haven't regretted a single second of the time. It's been about 22 months since I played 'seriously' and honestly have more fun when I do play.

Perfect statement, Jay. Personally, I couldn't agree with you more. Once I feel I'm playing for the right reasons, I see success on the felt.

I quit 1983 played for 8 months in 1993 started up again in May 2005 and now its just a disease to send me into old age! Pool must make you grow old!

Quit for the right reasons in 83 going down the wrong path. Needed some pool table therapy in 93 as soon as they started chasing me quit again for the right reasons like 83.

Started back for the right reasons again in 2005 and love it today for all the right reasons.

Seems kinda like life and pool sort of go hand in hand if you want to enjoy it.

Its easy to stop. Hard to quit and its even harder to get back especially when there's nobody that plays.

Ask yourself why you are giving it up. Is pool the root cause or is it alcohol consumption, gambling etc...?

Increased responsibility and family obligation are one thing, we must take care of our responsibilities before we play. I could offer the parable of the grasshopper and the ant or quote Pink Floyd and tell you "you can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat...

Physical limitation would be the only reason to quit completely. If you can no longer play the game you love because you are incapable that to me would be the hardest to swallow.
