Impression ...

I had the impression this was a Billiard forum, not a Golf forum.

Lets stick to the subject at hand, and forget the miscellaneous BS like Golf.

If you want to discuss Golf, go find a Golf forum, and spare us ...

golf has many similarities to pool.

"I don't claim I make em all, yet more often it is my stroke, not my aim, that fails."

The most intelligent comment so far on this post.

At this point I might suggest to the original poster, even though he says he is a good pool player, is to do the following test:

Set up 9 balls across the headstring. Put the cueball around 8 inches behind each ball and make them into the corner pockets using pocket tighteners.

Don't even think about aiming systems until you can do this at least 80% of the time on a big table. My own personal record on a 4' x 8' table is 26 in a row. This will make you sweat bullets. Then, and only then, should one consider how to aim.

Heh, I just realized that this will be a good test for the Captain and VA in Virginia next month, to see who has the straightest stroke. I am going to bring my pocket tighteners. Currently, I can't get past 10 balls in a row on a big table. Not bad for a C- player. I know you guys are too good for me, but I might be willing to play. Let's invite the Purdman also, and all AZ posters......sorry to change the subject.

WW - always looking for ways to improve.

that is a tough one WW, the pocket reducers kick out anything that touches them............i've only seen 1 ball bobble in and fall when i've used them.

Good God almighty. Could you imagine having DM at your condo or homeowners association meetings? What a blast.

I'd do it only if I could have FL with me. THAT would be a double blast and we would rule. He is a character and has my respect.

Heh, I figured out how Bazooka could make the cash. Rent out Drivermaker to go around to homeowners associations and philabuster (sp?) until everyone gets pissed off and votes for what you want them to vote for.

Keep up the good work guys!

WOW!
I never saw that post.

DM,
I may not be wealthy, but I have enough self respect and respect for those I gamble with, not to bet money I either do not have, or can't afford to lose.
That being said, anytime you wish to match up for a little cash and a lot of "kiss my ass", I'll be more than happy to oblige.
I can guarantee you that I do not wish to be your friend.
I make it a point to never make friends with someone who must resort to childish name-calling when faced with a differing opinion.

So, I guess since "Cornbread Red" has already been used as a nickname, we should nickname you "Cornholed Joe" (by a Bazooka...just in case you want to keep that in there somehow). LOL

I think he HAS explained his methods to a couple of instructors that he trusts implicitly. He's just very picky and choosy about it though. I'm just a player so he has nothing to really worry about with me. I'm not going to capitalize on it, make DVD's or VHS tapes, write books, or call it my own invention like too many want to do.

I can understand that, and I know he doesnt know me. But I can tell you I sure dont want to pass anything off as my own LOL.

I am one of the first people to give credit where credit is due. I have also just started as far as instructing goes and would have no problem sending a student to another instructor if there is something they need help with and I dont feel I can give them the help they need. A big ego is not something I have to deal with :)

Thx for you input DM

On a side note, if his system really is that good and he doesnt want anyone to capitalize on it why hasnt he produced a book or dvd himself. That way he would know he would get the credit.

Good question, but my best guess is that age and health might play a role in that now. The other is he just doesn't NEED the money nor the hassles of everything that goes with producing, protecting rights, distributing, etc.

Doesn't have to Kevin...I requested something from you. Now go do your job by reviewing the tape and post it or you can say that YOU helped it down the tubes also.

same thing as what happens in a pool hall.........one minute everyone is talking, next minute, everyone is woofing............this is a pool forum, and woofing is part of pool. its almost just as fun.

It surely did.
Here's the original post.
How important are aiming methods really?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have seen a lot of discussion on this board dedicated to the subject of aiming methods- ghost ball, rail road tracks, etc. This has always surprised me, because I have always believed that beginners are really the only players who should have much trouble determining where to aim.

My experience has been that if I put in enough time at the table, I know exactly where I need to hit the OB as soon as I line up the shot. IMHO, if players want to improve their aim, they should spend more time working on fundamentals and on pocketing as many balls as possible.

I would love to hear what other players think about this.

He's right imo. If one can shoot straight and learn how to control the cb, pocketing becomes incidental.
Like that article on aiming on BD magazine said, countless aiming systems later, 526 is still the record.

Sure Joey, but those two COMBINED is what grabs most everyone by their nuts. Otherwise, there would be a lot more top notch pros out there instead of hacks. Now...go do a wrap.... :p :D

Guess who said that?
Efren did. :D
One female person misquoted Efren on that aiming article on P and B mag.
Efren said there are only three shots in pool. Straight, angle and thin cuts when it came to controlling the ball not aiming.
Here's a story that might hint what Efren uses.
Efren was asked to try Gerry Jamito's ( a local semi-pro ) cue with a Predator shaft.
Efren shot with it, then threw the stick to the end rail after he missed badly.
He said he aimed the cueball here and the ball went there. :p
