How long do ferrules last

Im wondering how long ferrules last? Are they good for as long as they’re not damaged? I have a 93 Schon, a 80s Helmstetter and a couple shafts for each one and when I used to shoot quite a bit 7 years ago I had a cue maker friend who just took care of it for me. I didn’t pay attention to what he sold me, the cues I had back then just hit really well. Im not thrilled with the hit on the cues I have now. I put on new tips but didn’t improve the hit. The draw sure but not the hit. Im thinking new ferrules? But not sure, any good advice appreciated. Thanks!

It’s not the ferrules; it’s you. That’s a good thing - it means you don’t have to replace ferrules; you just have to get over it.

My guess is it's the tips. The old ones probably petrified and as for the new ones, 7 Years is a long time. The tips today probably aren't exactly the same as when they made them 7 years ago. I used to play with Moori mediums and they changed. I had to switch to Kamaui black soft to get the same feel. It's a process.
