How long does it take you to get out of stroke?

Some very interesting (and humerous) responses.

I find that the longer I have played and the better I get, the less I have to practice to stay in stroke. The stroke is "grooved". It's the fine tuning that suffers.

It usually takes me about 4 innings before I can make a thing. :(
Then I'm usually OK.
When I'm playing good, it can take 1 horrible shot to take away all confidence. :(
I know this is bad, but It is what it is.

When one gets into “Dead Stroke” they are in the “Zone”. This is when one feels like they cannot miss. It is the ability to play for periods of time and have absolute control over the table. They can see everything happening before they shoot and the results are near exact of what they expected. It is like playing the way you know you can but on a constant basis. You have that ability to stay in that zone until something happens that take you back out of it. The key is figuring out how to get back into the zone.

I completelu agree with Twal, here.

But back to the question at hand.

How long of a layoff does it take you to feel like you're out of stroke?

I can be in dead stroke, having just run 5 racks in a row, and then miss a simpe shot and not find that dead stroke again for "a long time".

How long does it take to you to feel like you're back in stroke?

Back in Dec I was in dead stroke, practicing 3 hours a day. Then after ur team won our division, I have not be able to find it again--even while practicing 3 hours per day. With me, right now, it is a head problem, not an aiming or mechanical problem.

How do you know when you're out of stroke?

Miss easy simple stuff--like the first shot after a BIH.......

How much practice per day does it take to maintain that "in stroke" feel?

I try to do 3 hr/d whether I'm in or out of stroke. When its really bad, I might try two 3 hour sessions per day to find it (or figure it out....)

About 15 minutes;) Actually, I seldom go more than a day without at least hitting balls. But, when I feel "out of stroke", it can take me a few days to a week to get it back again. I don't compete anymore though, so it's kinda academic to me now:p

Mine is the story of a guy who started out of stroke and through hard work and perserverance stayed out of stroke only to end up out of stroke...

Someone posted 5 beers, you damn lite weight. It takes about 5 jack and cokes and probably15 beers before i start losing it.
No in all seriousness there's a pill on the market now for losing your stroke.
Its called strokeagra.Just pop one in before you play.Your stroke is back and helps with choking to.Supposed to be fast acting .

well, I go with shaky....

For me, it usually needs about a rack or two straightpool/8-Ball to find my stroke at the beginning, but well loosing it goes so fast...

On one of our first league matches this year, I started warming up and broke and ran 3 (!) racks of 8-ball then...

When the match started, I lost the lag, he broke and failed position to the 8, then I ran out and broke and ran the next and everything was perfect...
then I broke and ran to the last before the 8, and managed to miscue...
He ran out and after that I did not find any confidence... I lost 5:2, with several chances, but always misaligned positions or missed easy shots...
all concentration was f..ed up... this happens all the time, but it becomes better, the better my play gets at least...
