How long have you been playing pool/how often do you play?

I started playing around 8-9 years old with my dad. Which was around 82-83. I began playing on a daily basis around 12, and have played off and on ever since.

I have only been playing a few months. I try to play everyday. Played a lot the 70s in high school. I am 59 years old now. My wife got me a dvd set by Jerry Briesath for Christmas, I really like his style of teaching. I wish he was closer to Ky so I could take some lessons.
Been playing since I was 10. I am 64 now. Although I have taken time off the game for years at a time, most recently 12 years. I have only just started back playing. I could play almost from the start it was so easy for me. I dropped out of high school to play pool. To be honest, I was making far more money playing pool then my teachers were making teaching.

My guidance councilor actually encouraged me to quit and just get a GED. I would come to school and sleep in class because I had been out all night. He knew me and I was somewhat of a local minor celebrity. My time in school was over and I moved on. It turned out to be a good decision and with my fathers help I owned my first pool room when I was 24. When I was playing I played as much as 8 to 10 hours a day or more. I was in the pool and bar business till I was about 40. I got tired of it, it can be too time consuming. Got a good price and was happy to move on.

I had a billiard room in the house, (still do), so practice was no problem and hanging out in pool rooms just didn't really interest me anymore. After a while though I just never played anymore it seemed and it was like a thing of the past. I would never have imagined that would be the case pool was such a big part of my life. I am sure if it was not for this forum keeping me somewhat interested I may have never played again. Then maybe a year ago after 12 years I cleared out the billiard room that had become just a place to store furniture I am again hitting balls.

Around 3 months ago I wandered into a pool room and for some dumb reason found myself asking a guy to play some cheap 9 ball. Turns out he is like the best player in the place and he robs me. It was funny I actually just assumed I would beat the guy he was not really anything. I guess I still had my old confidence but in this case it was false. So I am hitting balls a little now and plan to go back and play this guy again. I guess I have more of an ego then I thought. Trust me, he will be in for a real surprise. It was not that I played so bad it was more like I had forgotten how to play and win. I never played safe and played stupidly, plus I did play kind of weak in general.

I can't say playing is as much fun as it used to be. I play for a while now and then go off to do something else. In the past I would rather play then eat but I can see myself playing to some degree the rest of my life. I have though about another pool room lately. I do still have some equipment in storage a bought a while back. Then I think about all the headaches and have reservations. This stage in my life now it would not even have to make much money, just provide a nice place to play create a few jobs and give me something more to do.

At my age you need to make these decisions soon because time goes by fast. I doubt I will be interested in doing it at 80 so the clock is running. I have planned on looking around at some buildings in north Florida in the Tallahasse area. I like north Florida. I think I can find a decent building pretty cheap in todays market. But who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Wow, I can't believe I wrote all this.

Glad you did!

I have been playing around 53 years continuous.

I really can't count the first 5 years as playing. That's when I found Jerry Briesath and my game really started. Can't wait for next year, I get better every year.

Started playing 9 years ago. Prior to that, I had played a little here and there, but never really learned much. I moved to Portland with a company I worked for and when I got the good news of being fired a year later, I realized that I needed to meet people outside of work. I knew I liked bowling and pool, so the first stop was at a bar a block away. I went in and started killing time and got asked to join an APA team that same day.

I probably play 5 days a week normally. Right now, I'm on a Sunday 8/9 apa team, the 8 side of a Tuesday 8/9 apa team, weakest player on a Wednesday apa master team and subbing for 4 weeks of playoffs on a Thursday bca team. Hoping to do well in the bca regional in March and make local master.

Never touched a pool cue until two years ago at age 58. Of course, I wish I'd done it before my back and eyes went bad, but....better late than never.

I play about two hours a day.

50 years / 3 times a week min.
APA 7 in both 8 & 9 ball

Watch out for them 80 year olds. They been playing 70 years ;)

We have one 93 and another player at 96. Amazing. They use the rail as a walker, but the can make shots.

Beings that tax time is nigh, I wonder if Medicare will pay for that walker, or if it might be deductible as a health care expense?;)

PS The senior center I frequent just sold their table. They said it was just collecting dust. They used to be part of a league, apparently....don't what happened.
