How many threads are you subscribed to?

The Last MARTYR.

Not really. That's only one subscription for every 12 posts. Look at JoeyA. He is subscribed to one thread for every 2.5 posts. That is a lot of subscriptions.

And to keep with the thread, I have zero. Have thought about it, just never have.

Many years ago, I did not respond to questions that other posters posed to me in a thread. SmorgassBored complained to me that I wasn't responding to legitimate questions and so I set up the configuration to allow the system to HIGHLIGHT the threads I was subscribed to but with NO EMAIL NOTIFICATION. That way, all I have to do is click on USER CP and it automatically pops up ONLY THE new POSTS in a thread I am subscribed to.

Right about now, Smorg would be typing a post as if he were the last martyr.

My personal opinion, is that you should manually subscribe to any threads you feel are important enough that you want to be sure not to forget to read it over time. After the thread is dead, unsubscribe to it.

In general, I feel that if a person feels the need to respond in a thread, he/she should read OP's post, then read the replies after that, then make your point, based upon

1. The OP's post
2. Other people posts
3. what you want to get across

If you do this, you should be able to get your general point across, and then BE DONE WITH IT!:)

I think some people that may have their options set to subscribe to EVERY thread they post in, is unhealthy.

I personally think there is a lot of worthless posts, simply because some people that start a post, feel the need to reply to every person that made a reply.

I personally think there are also a lot of worthless posts, because some people that reply in a thread, feel the need to argue/contradict/do the broken record thing over and over, to anyone that opposes their point of view.

I strongly feel that, for the most part, a person should be able to get in the thread, make their point, and get out of the thread. A person can then read many people's opinions, without reading thru pages and pages of the same 3 people saying the same thing over and over, but mixing up the words a little.

This would be a example of what I mean. I came into this thread, I stated my point of view, and I won't be posting anymore in it. People may disagree with my point of view, they will state theirs, all is good. I certainly don't need to come BACK into the thread and go back and forth with anyone that disagree's with what I wrote.

Most subjects aren't important enough, in the overall grand scheme of things in my world, to warrant me feeling the need to "change people's minds", argue till I'm blue in the face", "get in the last word", show people how sharp I am", "search for wiki pages and copy and paste info to bolster my view".

Tell people your view and then sit down and shut up and listen to what others say.

This is my overall point of view, and exceptions are likely.

I have 1 subsciption to a thread. I will probably add more now. It should cut down on 'search time'.

Joey/others-Is there a setting that allows you to subscribe to specific posters?

Thanks

I am subscribed to 1 thread. The funny picture/video/joke thread.

other than that I'm not sure I care enough anymore to worry about tracking threads. most threads that go on for more than a few days generally have a lot of drama going on and I've lost all interest in that kind of thing.

You may have to ask Jay. He knows how to do that kind of stuff.

But seriously, I don't know if there is a setting for subscribing to specific posters.

I do know that you can IGNORE all posts by a specific poster and you can set that setting.

So you see, if I hadn't been subscribed to this thread, I wouldn't have been able to provide this sage information to 3railKick. :grin-square:

Hi Joey-

Yes-I see the ignore option specifying a poster. I was hoping that I had overlooked a similar ability to subscribe to a specific poster's activity. (like JoeyA, Jay, Bob Jewett...)

As you say, if it's knowable-Jay probably knows.

Thanks for the sage

Well then, you should change your user title, because according to your post, you are obviously no POOL FORUM JUNKIE.

Also, if you make your point of view, and shut up so you can listen, how can you listen to what others have to say without subscribing to the thread?

A few people may not be aware of some of the forum feature settings that are available to them or even how they work.

Maybe this thread will help some of them learn more about the setting and allow them to make their own choices.

My personal opinion is everyone should do exactly what they want to do as long as they follow the forum rules.
