How many women are in the Open?

This topic seems to come around every year.

Women are not allowed to play in the MEN's US OPEN.

Its my understanding that this statement is incorrect. The US Open is just that, OPEN...However, conveniently the WPBT has required that in order for the WPBT players to compete in any event, that is not WPBT sanctioned. The Tournament or organization (in this case Barry Berman) must pay a $700 sanctioning fee. Which most of the time the Independent events refuse to pay. Also I believe there are other reasons that the Top women choose not to play in some of these events. But I won't go into those here.

I'm not trying to argue the reasons... I'm just stating that they can't play in it... The website specifically says men only, no women... it doesn't differentiate between regular females like myself & those that're on the WPBT... Again, I don't know all the details, I just know that women, in general, according to the US Open website, cannot play in it.

So if I get a UPA Pro card, and the UPA sanctions the Open, then how can they bar a UPA player from playing??

It's the UPA, they do whatever they want and they usually do it wrong on top of that ;)

I don't believe that... Look at the fabulous venue chosen to host this year's World Summit of Pool: Slates Billiards! What pool player doesn't like to play in a championship tournament in a flashy nightclub with loud music?

The UPA does not allow women to be members either. They "claim" to be the governing body of men's professional pool. Their argument is that men can't play in WPBA events so women can't join their club. Although, they will gladly take the membership and entry fees from any MALE "c" player even though UPA Pros would not be allowed to play in c-level tournaments.

The US Open ought to be open to women to play in and the WPBA US Open ought to be available for ANY woman to play in. That's my opinion anyway.

This is such a lame argument, i cant believe it continues. Most UPA players cannot play in Wheelchair events, Seniors event, Junior Events, 'D' Player events, Amatuer Events etc. but they do not bar such players from their events.

There is nothing wrong with Women having their own events. It does not follow that there should not be Open events where all PLAYERS can play.

Yes, but women should be allowed to play with the boys if they wanted too. At least the regional tours allow us to do this. :)

And while were are at it...it is called the US Open...as in the United States...yet there is a large amount of players who are not from the US.

Golf and tennis hold such events with foreigners entered in it to play. It's just a title. Copyrighted, but just a title.

I agree with Nostroke. It's Barry's event and if he doesn't want to open it up to the women pros, then that's that.

If you think i said anything to contradict the above, i think you should reread it.

I would love to see the US Open being openned to both genders. I see that some may want to hold a women's only US Open to offer only female players a chance to claim the title. If a female won both US Open titles, that would be a real feat which would for sure go down in history as one of the greatest achievment.

I am not following the argument why they would not allow women to play in the UPA or the Men's US Open although I can see why they would want to restrict men from entering a WPBA tournament.

The only reason I can see the US open restricting women from entering is may be because of some agreement(s) the WPBA might have signed with Berry.

With regard to the UPA, what is the logic behind their decision? I am sure they have something more than saying it is because men are not allowed to play in any womens' tournament.

May be someone from the UPA can explain it to us?

I totally disagree with women being able to play at the Open. What other sport allows the women to compete against the men? And why is the fact that men aren't allowed in women's events not a good enough answer? Saying that some of the women players are just as good as the men kinda works both ways doesn't it? I mean if a guy wanted to play in a women's event then would a good argument be that there are many men that play worse than women? Haha i don't think so. All things being equal, how could a woman argue about being able to play with the men, when they know they surely don't want the men to show up at their tournaments. I think women at the open would cheapen the event. and c'mon guys, no woman would stand a chance at even coming close to winning. The male players are just on a totally different level. To quote Earl the Pearl "women just don't quite grasp the game"

Let the backlash begin

Here we go again.

So they shouldnt let seniors play in it either because most of the Open players arent allowed in the senior events. IS that your loigic?

Not to mention that Allison and Karen EASILY beat 60% of the field as it now stands.

no seniors are fine if they have the balls to play. (pun intended)

and with your statistic almost half of the men at the open can beat every girl in the world, haha nice

I don't understand why women are always trying to join the men's sporting events. There's plenty of other pool tournaments besides the US Open that allow both men and women to play. Personally, I think the US Open is fine as is.

I dont understand by your logic why seniors are fine. Plus I said Karen and Allison EASILY beat 60% of the field. They regularly would beat around 80% of the field and both could finish in the final 32 without shocking anyone. That means they are good enough to play in that field.

Isnt the guy you are quoting the guy who said to the fans (of MIka) "why are you cheering for him, he's a foreigner?" Nice.
