and who practices the most and who practices the least? I heard one older pro recently say that he practices 4 hours a day.

heres what i think

as far as souquet he hardly ever practices because he plays in a tourney a week.strickland is hardly ever in the poolroom in springhill.actually the top players only play a third as much as most people think.most golf ,have kids or whatever.at one time in their life they played alot but as you get farther in your career you just play a few days before a tourney or big money match.if we practiced as much as the players from other countries instead of golfing and poker etc we would be alot tougher as a group than we are.

As someone who is really trying to improve, I really am interested in what some of the best players are doing.

For example, if a pro is practicing six hours a day, what the heck are they doing on the table for so long that can keep their focus?

It's hard to equate what pros do with what we do, because they're bringing a different technical and mental capacity to their practice.

Thus the question of intensity of practice. Does six hours mean they're neck-deep in drills or "sparring" for six hours? Or does it mean they have a table for six hours, but between 20-minute practice sets are reading the newspaper or chatting with their friends. If you could chart their routine, copying it would only yield results specific to your abilities.

I think the best way to find your best practice routine is to work with a coach periodically to put together a practice regimen that addresses your needs. As far as length and intensity of practice, you'll know if you're holding back or burning yourself out.

Once the IPT starts rolling and the $$$ get serious I think we will
see players hitting the practice table more often. I think all of them at
one time or another played all the time but have settled.

IMO more interesting than them increasing time practicing is what and how they are going to choose to practice.

There will be a big difference between a good showing and finishing near the top in these IPT events.

Exactly. Where I play, there has been one pro in particular that has been practicing 4 to 6hrs a day for like 5/6 days a week. He rotates between one pocket, 10-ball, 8-ball, and straight pool. But on a normal basis, I know he doesn't practice this much. He's just trying to gear up for the IPT.

Practice

Varner has been going strong at 4-5 hours a day for the past two weeks.
