At tournaments I normally raise the price of my tips a straight 5.00 across the board. Anytime I install a tip I include taking out all dents and cleaning and polishing the shaft. My standard tip replacement which includes: Elk Master (soft), Triumph (med. soft), LePros (med.), Triangle or Water Buffalo (hard) and including the shaft recondition normally is 10.00 so that is raised to 15.00. All Chandivert tips are 15.00 so they go to 20.00. Talisman Pros. are 20.00 and are raised to 25.00 Mooris are 35.00 and raised to 40.00.
When doing ferrules, which includes a standard tip and polish I normally get 25.00 for a cheap one ( meucci type or fibre) and 35.00 for a good one (melamine, aegis, ivor-X and so on). I usually don't raise those prices nor price for doing a linen rewrap that is 40.00. I normally charge 7.00 or 8.00, depending on the mood I'm in to clean and polish a shaft and at tournaments that is raised to 10.00.
At some tournaments you must charge more money if they have a real high price to set up. I usually try to get them to let me work on a percentage as you won't normally lose money that way. I usually try to get a deal where the first 100.00 is mine for expenses and then I give them 25% over that. I once did a tournament in Col. OH. It was the last tournament for the Pro Camel Tour. It lasted a week and there was two other tournaments going at the same time. I paid 800.00 for a booth and Joe Blackburn was only two booths down. Neither one us made any money that week. I did about 1,100.00 but between staying in a room, eating and so on plus getting a speeding ticket on the last night I lost about 300.00 plus a weeks work in the shop.
Got to love it.
