How much do you tip the table mechanic?

I was at the North American Open tourney in San Destin and I needed some help to move my lathe table down the stairs and a few other things so I asked the hotel if they had someone to give me a hand...they send this bellboy over and when he was done with the three trips down the stairs I slipped him a $10.00 bill...he didn't bust his nuts that's for sure but he says to me..."What is this?, I don't think so."...he says that I owed him a $40.00 dollar tip for the work he did....LOLz....he went to get this paper that had standard tip amounts on it...in the meantime I got his boss who was pretty pissed when I told what the bellboy flunkie said to me...I hope he got a good reaming....

IMO the "tip" is to show appreciation for doing a good job.

As for paying for the installation and delivery I would guess that the setup guys did not make anything for that portion. If they came and did a fine job then a tip is not unreasonable. It also could help in the future.

Everything has a delivery charge worked in. Its not like anyone will ever give someone free delivery and it actually be free.


Getting good service is becoming a rare event. When I get good service and especially when someone goes that little extra I tend to tip.

I may be confused, but shouldn't people expect to get paid only if they do a good job as opposed to getting a tip if they do a good job?

The only exception to this might be a wait staff individual. Even there, although I am a good tipper, why is it that restaurants count on us to pay for the food and to pay their employees? I'm in the wrong business.
