How much per hour for table time

Where? I was at Amsterdam Billiards in Manhattan a few weeks ago and it was $7/hr during the the afternoon. I think Society has similar pricing (depending on time of day).

I live upstate in Amsterdam, NY. The local room is called Sharp Shooters and is on the Joss Tour. The rate is $5.75/hr/person, but there is a Tuesday special of $8/day from start to closing at midnight. Saturday has the same all-day deal, but it's $10 for the day. Eight Diamond 9' Pro-Ams in very good condition, and eight 7 footers.

The same guy owns Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton Park. Same $5.75/hr on fifteen 9' Gold Crowns, but a super deal on Mondays - $7 for the entire day (2PM-2AM). There is also a Ladies Night on Thursday - gals play free between 8PM and 2AM.

Really? i dont go to manhatten because i live in queens but even then i hear the places in the city goes for a much higher rate. i wish i could find a place that is a bit lower considering i shoot pool a lot. its sad because the amount of money i spend at my pool hall, i could probably purchase all the tables there by now :p

Sloppy,

Who won the Joss event last week? No news here on AZ. Thanks.

Lyn

I was only there on Saturday, but apparently Jeremy Sossei won again. It's a nice room and real close by, but such a crowded venue to attend as a railbird. I'm sure Sunday would have been less crowded as many of the losers would have been home by then, but I had more important things to do so I passed on it.

Funny, I'm glad I have my table now, but if I knew Sharp Shooters was so close by when we moved here last year, I probably would have just gone there to play. When we moved to Amsterdam, NY, the first thing I did was to do a Google search for "Amsterdam, billiards, pool". Guess where Google sent me? lol

As it stands now, I have $3K into my table (not a Diamond) and over that much in the room I built to surround it. I'm looking at close to $8K by the time I'm done, plus hundreds of hours of sweat equity I'll never get back.

All that time I could have spent playing instead of working on the room. Plus, the little time I've had to actually have a cue in my hands has been spent practicing alone rather than playing against an opponent. At a pool hall, there is always someone better to play and learn from. Sometimes I lose sight of the fact that it's a game because it's just so damn easy to walk down the stairs to hit some balls rather than get in the truck and drive into town.

Bottom line is $8000 is 1000 Tuesdays on a 9' Diamond at Sharp Shooters @ $8/day. I'll be 61 this coming Saturday. I'm not sure if I even have 1000 Tuesdays left.;)

in Chattanooga...

The 2 main pool rooms here have quite different pricing.
Chattanooga Billiard Club has 20 tables. Two 9ft Diamonds, four 9ft Gold Crowns, and fourteen 8ft Gold Crowns. The tables are very loose except for the Diamonds which have been triple-shimmed. The cloth is Simonis but has not been stretched enough causing them to play slower than normal. The rates are $3/hr, Sunday thru Thursday from open until close. Friday and Saturday it is $6/hr. They do have some kind of lunch special but seeing how I have to work for a living, I am never there during lunch hours.
Diamond Billiard Club has seven 7ft smart tables. 75¢/game or you can have the table opened for $6/hr. They also have two 9 footers for which they charge $7/hr. The equipment is maintained fairly well and only goes to show you get what you pay for. Action at Chattanooga Billiard Club is pretty much nonexistent in relation to the pretty much nonexistent action in Chattanooga. If there is any action at all it is going to be at Diamond Billiard Club.

So you don't use cabs since they charge extra for extra people, you don't go to concerts since they arena will get used anyay even if only one person shows up, hotels since they charge more for multiple people even though the room is going to be used regardles, theme parks since the roller coaster will get run the same amount of time if only one person uses it.........

You open a business, pay the rent, bills etc, then just charge one cheap rate no matter how many are on the table and see how long you're in business.

Also FYI, these "schemes" make it cheaper on most players. If they didn't charge per person, they would have to charge a flat rate per hour, regardless of how many people play. This rate would be the average rate they need to have the table in use to cover the cost for the table, up keep, and make profit.

So, instead of say 4.00 for one person, they would just charge a flat rate of 12.00 per hour. If 5 people play, then its an ok price, but most of the time its only 1-2 people per table, so that would be too expensive for most people. This would drive their business down substantially for several reasons I'm not going into.

Next time, before you assume somthing is a "scheme," pull out a calculator and put some thought into what is actually going on.

Cabs don't charge for extra people where I live. The word scheme does not mean scam, it's proper english for how prices are charged which is what I said and meant. I am very handy with pricing schemes and a calculator as I have run a successful business myself for 20 years. I didn't say anything about charging one cheap rate. Or being cheap at all. Every service has a breaking point above which people will not buy. This varies from place to place. My experience with sliding scale per person rooms is that they fail. At least around here. Makes me think I'm not the only one who objects to it.
