Level playing field. With long race single elimination. I'd put up 5k for a shot at a 30 k first prize. Where do we sign up?
I've tried to get a 200 dollar 8 or 16 player event going for the better players locally. Have like 2 or 3 handicap levels. Nobody will play straight up. Those days are gone. Something that could pay a grand or two first prize, even do winner take all. Sadly players are broke or just don't have enough heart.
I always liked single elimination, even with short sets...it made me bear down from the first shot, which I didn't always do in double elimination.

With the recent big foot challenge, it got me thinking.
Based on your current skill level and given that all of the other player are theoretically also your level, how much would you pay to enter a single elimination tourney?

In a 16 player field with 15 other players of your same ability, you have just above a 6% chance mathematically of winning the tournament.
I'd play for as much as my comfort level for tournaments is for a double elim, probably $60. For more I'd rather match up one on one for a few sets or something.
I am in a semi odd situation though where my son is getting to be close to my level of playing and I need to double any tournament entry fee since I can't go and not take him.
So for me any tournament fee is doubled, plus any food costs. Even if one of us cashes I lose LOL. He keeps what he wins, I keep what I win, so I'm down 50% unless I double my money.
