There is no "Right price range" as it differs all over the country. You charge whatever the going price in you area will bear. Here in Cincinnati I install a tip, Clean, polish, take out or fill all dents and cuts in a shaft and guarantee the tip not to come off for the life of the tip be it three months or three years. For this I charge 10.00 for standard tips which include: Elk Master-soft, LePro or Triumph-med, Triangle or water Buffalo-hard. All Chandiverts are 15.00, all Talisman and most of the other layered tips are 20.00 and I charge 30.00 for Moori's and snipers.

I've done some Viking Tour Tournaments in small towns and those people thought I was an absolute crook for charging those kind of prices. Other times in bigger cities people thought it was the biggest bargain in town. It's all in the location.

The only crooks are those that think they should get that kind of service for less than you charge Dick. That's a tremendous value. I charge $15.00 just for the tip installation and $10 extra for the cleaning & reconditioning. The C&Recon is usually $15 by itself, but when you get a tip, you save a nickle.

I would say that you should check the other repairmen on the web. Should give you a nice start and from there, you'll have to judge your consumer.

Cheap tip installation? Price of a haircut at SuperCuts locally.
Good tip? Shampoo and a cut.
Layered tip? Shampoo, cut and conditioner.
Shaft conditioning with tip install? A perm.
Shaft conditioning with a layered tip? Hair color.
The tip lasts a lot longer than your haircut.:D

Add 20-25% at the tournament.

LOL. I like the cost comparison. Can anyone do it for a brand of beer at a bar? I'd be curious to find out. Nice... haha.

> Here in my town,I charge 15 for Elk Masters,Triangles and LePros along with a complete cleaning. No one locally has ever asked me to NOT clean a shaft when retipping. If someone were to do so,I'd knock 5 bucks off. I've had regular customers ask me about Mooris and other high-end layered tips, but when I tell them that those tips can cost me 10-15 bucks or more, such as the original Moori costing 20 a pop with no price break for quantity, and tell them I charge the price of the tip plus 10 bucks for installation and the standard cleaning,NOT ONE of them has gone thru with it. In fact, until I get my repair shop totally mobile and making enough money that I can justify the 500 bucks or more to keep all the popular layered tips in stock,I won't order them except at personal friends requests. I will probably add 5 bucks to the standard tip/cleaning on site at tournaments. I charge 20 bucks to do a Meucci ferrule, your choice of tip,and do them enough that before long I'll have to buy Atlas rod 4 feet at a time, because at a bare minimum,80% of the local players use Meuccis. I've only done a few phenolic ferrules locally, and charge 25 for those, again with the tip of your choice. The one piece tip/ferrule combo is getting to be a hot item here, thanks to a few I've done for a friend at no cost because he advertises my work so well. I have a couple shafts coming in for customers that want them, and 25-30 is what I'll charge for these, lower if I don't have to thread the tenon myself. So far,2 of the 3 I've done were Players shafts that had a Meucci-type implex ferrule on them, after removing it I found that it was just slipped onto a 3/8 tenon,so I had to turn it down and thread it myself. I haven't done a linen wrap yet,so I have no idea what to charge for that, but 30-35 is pretty much standard, unless it's done on site. Tommy D.

Tommy,

I get my mooris from joerackem on ebay. They are around 10 apiece including shipping. I buy them in lots of ten. You should probably make a couple of dollars selling the tips as well. After all, your capital is outlayed and you should expect some return- even if you just sell them for $13 + install.

I agree with you totaly. I think his prices on tips are not out of line but he should charge seperatly for cleaning shafts etc. Butterflycues

This is what I charge.
Elk Master, LePro $10
Triangle, WB, Sumo $12
Talisman Pro $15
Talisman WB $20
Sniper $25
Moori $40
Ferrule, Agis, IVOR-X $20 + tip
1 piece canvis Phenolic break ferrule $30 (if cue bought from me $20)
Shaft clean and conditioned $10
I always include Shaft clean with new ferrule
The only differance between Tournament and home is I include Shaft cleaning with new tips at home.

Some places think I'm high, some places think I'm cheap. But they all like my work. If you do quality work in a professional manner, even the cheap people will pay your price to get their cue fixed.

> Thanks Pete,if I can get them that cheap I probably need to get some. When I went to the '94 U.S. Open I met Joe Gold getting off the plane with 25brand new Cogs, and talked to him for probably close to 12 hours altogether during the week, and he turned me onto the Moori. Back then they came in 5 different hardnesses, and he was selling them for 25 a pop, because they were 20 a pop wholesale, even if you bought 10 cans, and they were scarce to boot. Bill McDaniel told me about 4 years ago that he had 3 cans of the original ones, and was charging and GETTING 100 bucks installed. I looked at him like he was drunk. Tommy D.
