since this sucker was heading for the garbage can, i thought, just for the heck of it, i'd turn cue to strip the rest of the finish off and cut out the warp
it was warped when i sold it to him a few months ago, but warped a little more from this excessive heat treatment he gave it

since this cue was hugeeeeeeeeeeeee, i figured i might be able to salvage it for him
butt was 1.30" , joint .880"
after cutting the finish only off, it measured out at 1.26" & .840"
40/1000ths of finish
i thought this cue was ebony, but to my surprise, i swear it's painted black
and it is one piece construction, with a wrap groove cut in it
it's an old mcdermott, someone told me maybe 1970's???????????
i wiped some mineral spirits on it to show the wood, don't have a clue what it is
looks green to me, but i'm so colorblind it could be anything but green

If the wood wasn't sealed prior to paint, as this one seems, the paint soaked into the woodpores and unless you go down further with the router, it will have a greenish/blackish color. I've stripped and repainted a few for friends that were like that. Atleast the warp is gone. I also have noticed an older McD that had .020 of finish on it at the end of the shaft, and it was chipping so I peeled the chips down and went from .840 to .824 by just removing the finish. It was a bi@#h to build it back up.
