So I set up a table in the back yard I got off craigs list . my kids have never played before. its only been 3 days and there already betting on games. I laughed my but off when I heard they were betting . Betting chores, who is going to refill there cups with kool aid, washing dishes etc. I have never mentioned anything about betting or hustling or anything to that effect. So is it just the nature of the beast or what. My 8 year old has had his glass filled 3 times already. LOL

Pool and betting/gambling are almost synonymous. In the public perception, if you are not betting you are not really playing. Even for league players there is a reward for a winning outcome.

Also for players who say they just enjoy the game for the games sake. They practice with at some point an intention of testing themselves in battle. Be it gambling, league or a small local tournament.

Without playing under some pressure situation at some point the whole endeavor seems pointless. I wagered on pool almost from the first time I ever played.

Every single time the cue comes out of the case!!! Well that may be a small exageration, but in reality 99% is prob accurate lol. Literally there are only 2 good friends of mine that I will " play play " with. Don't know if they would technically count because with those 2 we always play for time. The only other exception would be if im out somewhere and end up with a cute chic on the table with me and if it is truly a hot chic u best believe im trying to get some " action " going and for sure always some kinda " wager for something " but never the Chez ;)

Almost always, there is only one old friend I play with occasionally whom I'll enter a game with for nothing, he won't gamble. Other than him, always, that's kind of the point. I do play this game because I love it but gambling is a big part of my love for it.

I am right there with you Colonel with everything ya said, now with that understood believe it or not I do actually think there may be something to be gained by going and doing some alone practice; drills, ghost or basically anything that you know or feel helps you.

Now I do love pool, I do love gambling, and yes I do truly love gambling at pool - BUT I have tried countless times to get on a table by myself and get in some good productive practice to include everything I stated above. What I have found time and time and time again I just do not have either the drive and attention span for that. Like clockwork after 10 mins I have totally lost all interest in shooting. And also like clockwork once I reach that point im just beating balls and not even aiming - and not even wanting to aim.

It is what it is so I just do what works for me, which I believe is what everyone SHOULD be doing because in a million different ways each and every one of us are different!

Yep. Natural as can be.
When I was a teenager I would either come home from the pool hall with a pocket full of quarters, or an empty one.

That is great LOL, my son told me he was playing with his friends for things, but I told him to stop, he is way better than them and I think it's rude to try to win stuff from your friends.

I actually avoid playing doubles in one room unless I can partner with my friend, but since we are both in the top rank of the players there, we are often told "no way" since the other guys don't want two strong players on a team, so I don't play. We're not going to go after each others money, and if we just meet later to give it back, it would not be fair to the other guys that lose their money.
