How Old...

Started playing at the bowling alley at 13. At 14 started taking public transportation to poolrooms in Philly.

Right after I turned 20. I'm 22 now. I had picked up a cue before that as a kid but not seriously.

I started playing so long ago that the balls were square. We just kept hitting them until eventually they turned round on their own.
Seriously i started playing full time in 1961. I was 14
And by seriously I mean it was always in a pool room. Quite an education all around for a 14 year old.

I think people sometimes fool themselves as to when they started. Yea, they may have played when they were quite young but didn't really play. I first played when I was maybe 8 because there was a table around but I could not play at all and didn't really care. I got interested when I was like 12 or 13. Then it happened fast and in no time I was playing pretty good. It became all I wanted to do. I ultimately quit school to play pool I was so hooked.

Perhaps that is why my Dad bought the table for our garage, to keep me playing at home while I finished school.

first played around age 13 at a friend's house who had a table,
but didn't play seriously until I got a home table, around age 50

my dad was a fantastic player, probably an A-player, who used to hustle to make ends meet in the 60's.......but since my parents divorced early, didn't get much playing time in with my dad..........:mad:

according to mom, she divorced dad cause he never had a steady job......

Please don't blame anyone.

Society & it's dictates are sometimes the issue. In a different time & place matters would probably have been different.

Love is Love but it don't put shoes on baby's feet.

Best Wishes to You & Yours,

Around 13 years old. Our church had a teen center with a table. We would show up with stacks of baseball cards. Nobody had money so it would go something like this (early years woofing):

"I'll put up a George Brett rookie to your Cal Ripken rookie"

"You're crazy! Your Ripken and a Pete Rose third year!"

"Rack 'em"

Damn we were young degenerates. 😜

Started playing in uni days when I was 18
We used to skip classes just to go play some.
Didnt play for another 2 decades after that
:D

My family first got a pool table when I was 8. Enjoyed playing with my dad. Can't say it playing seriously, but I played as much as I could. Tought myself how to bridge and such. Still remember when I first hit a "stop shot". I remember realizing all of a sudden, "Wait, you mean I can control how the cue ball moves?!?!?!" Was always the best player through high school. Was shocked when I got to college and realized there were a number of players even better than me. College years is when I really started playing "serious" pool.

I stared late at 13 yrs. old... but... it was my Dad that introduced me to the game & I will always remember those times with Him.

How about you guys?

Look at the kids middle finger (in red). It wraps around that shaft...

A year and a half ago, at the age of 47. Some friends had a cookout and I showed interest in their pool table. Soon after I got recruited onto their league team.

We had a pool table at our frat house, so it lasted about 4 months. And I was a mean stick carom player on the playground when we were in elementary school.

So happy to have found this game. But I do wonder now what mighta been if it had been earlier in life.
