How to adjust for banks close to the rail?

When shooting a bank shot with the object ball close to the rail, how do you estimate the adjustment needed to account for the angle shortening because the ball is sliding rather than rolling?

Are there any good drills for practicing this?

Thanks!

Set up a mirror image target. Find the line for a straight such bank that sits at 2 from the end rail. Extend that line forward until it hits the extended end rail nose. The intersection is the target for all cross-corner banks that are sliding. The point is roughly three diamonds from the side rail rail nose along the nose line of the end rail.

Of course this does not include any side spin you get on the object ball, but it does give you a starting point for twisted shots.

So, Spot On the Wall, but only 3/4 as far from the table as usual…?

You can find that spot in two seconds by placing your cue along the end rail nose line. No arithmetic.
Idea for a new pool product: the Spot on the Wall Assistant - a 30" tall free-standing pole (collapsible so it fits into a cue case) with a pool ball on top. Place it wherever your spot-on-the-wall-of-the-moment is.

pj <- definitely illegal, but accepting confidential pre-orders (bitcoin only)

I drilled and tapped a pool ball for a 1/4-20 screw, which is what camera tripods seem to have. A ball on a bar stool -- maybe sitting on chalk -- is cheaper.

could someone hel with a pic please?

Looks right to me. Doesn't matter where the balls are, as long as the shot's a 1-rail sliding bank/kick shot to the bottom left corner pocket.

@Patrick Johnson see bobb's post above he says for SIDE POCKET BANKS
thats why i am confused
but bob gave me a
so maybe he meant cross corner???
@Bob Jewett help please?

You mean when he said “cross-side banks”? I think he meant “cross-table using a side rail.”

yes patrick that how i interpreted it
cross side banks =side pocket
but i can understand now that he could have meant what you said
cross-side banks=cross-table using a side rail

Dr. Dave's, "1/3-more-than-twice" diagram, where the individual lines should converge at the same aimpoint (off the table):
