The better you get, the more you want to play. What was that "stroke" you are talking about?
Well, Mr. Kuo suggested that I try to hit the ball smoother using the speed of the whole arm with more follow through, rather than using the "snooker" stroke which is more of a short piston action.
He also showed me how he pretty much aim straight at the ball without much adjustment with english when he is hitting the ball at medium speed. He explained to me a smooth stroke could help me to control swerve, which could make my shots with english more controllable.
I used to hit the ball quite hard, so squirt was a big factor, and since the ball was striked so hard, it did not have much time for swerve to take effect before it reached the object ball.
He suggested that I watched Bustamante and Reyes, to understand why lots of force is not necessary.
I am still trying to understand what he was saying. His suggestion certainly has opened up a door for a lot of new possibilities. I can make a lot more shots which I could not make before and I am able to control my cue ball better, while being able to move the cue ball around the table more.

Pool

Richard ... I have been playing 45 years, and my addiction is still going strong. Although, I have minimized it when I was married, it surged up again when divorced, as I am now. And no, Pool was never an issue in my divorces, I just simply wore them out ... lol

You made the right choice but for some people they choose this game over life itself and sadly most of them die alone and broke.:(

But they got to live the dream, that has to be worth something. I doubt seriously that Wimpy looked back on his life as if it were a waste.

When I was younger I wanted to be a professional skateboarder more than anything else in this world. From the age of 12 on I practiced until every fiber in my body ached. When I turned 18 and was ready to move out, I wanted to go to California to try my hand at going pro. My parents suggested I go into the Air Force. Now its 3 years later and every time I see my old board collecting dust in the garage I wish I had just committed and followed my dream.

Moral: Dreams are worth more than people know.

....hopefully I can make some dreams come true with pool. I'm certainly willing to. Plus, pool is a lot easier on the knees than skateboarding ;)

Just to provoke some thought, I actually hate this game with a passion but it has consumed most of my life.
From owning, operating a room and playing for over 30 years I still hate it.
I practice religiously these days, almost never missing a day, 2-3 hours sometimes twice a day trips to the room. Sigmund, you there ?.......

i have been having trouble going to sleep due to thinking about shots i played bad earlier in the night etc. does anyone else have this problem of constantly thinking of shot scenarios when trying to fall asleep?

i think im going to go seek help! :p

I do! The bad and the good! I just keep seeing pattern after pattern trying to run a endless rack!!!

I was told that the good carom three cushion players see nothing but the patterns of the balls bouncing off the cushions when they sleep looking up the ceiling.:)

Another thing about my addiction is that I really like to try out new cues, I keep changing cues and trying them out. To me, trying out a new cue is like getting to know a new friend. When I have a new cue, I really want to go play a lot so as to understand this "new friend." Then I may retire it or sell it and go on to the new "friend." Lately, I can somehow feel the subtle differences of cues a bit more than before, this has lead me to want to try out my cues more, and play more pool.

I will think about the differences between the cues I have, even when I am not playing...then I will think of shots I have not tried with a certain cue and want to try to see how they would feel.

Cue is a piece of art and also an instrument, I think all great cue makers are just brilliant...but they are also to blame for my addiction.J/K:(

I was onced asked......Do you love it yet? When I replied yes. The fellow pool player said. I feel sorry for you. It will never end unless a wife and kids come along first.

Tony
I don't have an answer for the kids part but I was lucky enough to find a woman who was addicted to pool too. I married her.
