How to buy a used cue?

You are

kidding, aren't you?

Go to a good Pool room, they have sticks for sale, or go to the Wanted/For Sale section of the forum for a good stick.

Is this just going to be used on your home table, or will you be bringing it out of the house too? (I think you're the one getting that 1pc slate table, right?) If you're not going to bring it out of the house, you can probably just buy a couple of Dufferin 1-piece house cues for really cheap. I believe you can get them for about $25 or less each, brand new. When I've used them in poolhalls, I've always thought that they hit great, before they get destroyed by careless people. I would expect those to be much better than a Camel cue. That would allow you to put off the 2-piece cue decision until later. Then again, relatively speaking I don't know jack about cues, so lets see what other people say. If you like this idea, you can shop around for them. I think the standard-looking house cue model is called the Dufferin Hi-Run. :)

You can do better

Do not buy the Camel Cue they are cheaply made. The McDermott is over priced. I can not make out the logo. It might actually be a Genuine by McD.
Dufferin are not what they use to be. They are now imported and owned by Lucasi. You might want to take a look at this post and others I have made.
I am sure I could help you out.

Please PM if you need pics of others.

I would recommend the Dufferin house cue anyway, I like how they hit, whenever I get the money I plan to get one converted to a two piece. If I remember correctly there was a very, very, very well done conversion posted on this board before. But thats just me, I've always been a fan of sneaky petes. =)

-edit-
You also cant go wrong with the cues that rackem has posted. new, $80, cant hurt =)

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I think I will get a Dufferin One Piece Hi-Run House Pool Cue (< $30) for now. BTW, it looks like you can choose from 18oz to 21oz. Which one do you guys prefer? Or it's really a personal thing. I guess this must be a stupid question :o

BTW, yes, I'm the guy who got a free 1 piece slate table and is arranging the moving right now :)

All the best,

Tom

It seems like Dufferin One Piece Hi-Run House Pool Cue has only 1 length (42"). Is that true? Is that good enough for most people? Is this also a personal thing? Just want to konw what you guy think. Thanks a lot!

It's definitely personal preference like you said, but if I had to guess I'd say you can't go wrong by starting with a 19oz cue.

Good luck, and enjoy that table! :)

Cool. I'll buy 2 (free shipping >$50). One for 19oz and one for 20oz. Thank you all for the help!

All the best,

Tom
