My shaft has a deep scratch near the joint. It is 4 inches long and deep. I have used water on a sponge and then taped the wet sponge on for the night and no results. Help.

Depending on how deep, it may not even be possible to fix. But you will get more response if you post your question on the main forum.

If the scratch is into the clear finish, that will be a job for a cue maker. You have two options, ignore it, or find a cuemaker in your area. As suggested, the cuemaker forum will help you locate one in your area.

A very old trick that works is steam. The old tea kettle. Get the steam going an line up the scratch up to the stream of steam an rotate shaft. The wood grain will rise , then use oooo steel wool or what ever you prefer to smooth it out. It works. :):)

This is certainly one of the ding remedies, but does this work on a scratch (especially a "deep scratch" as the OP has)? I thought most of the remedies for dings do not apply to scratches because by definition with a scratch you have torn the wood fibers. I'd be a little leery of steaming a deep scratch, the wood could expand in any old direction. I can even see the wound possibly opening up more.
