How to get Cue appraised?

Hello everybody.

I have an old SouthWest cue I'd like to sell. I bought it around 1995 from a guy who got it from John Wright. From what I recall, it was made in 1986.

My problem is, I have no idea whatsoever what it is worth, and I think this is complicated cause the cue doesn't have a logo or serial number.

Can anyone advise how to go about determining what a fair sale price would be?

John, not too complicated. If you can provide some good clear pictures of the cue, I'd be happy to take a look and give you my thoughts.

seriously though, value and what you can get for it are two different things. if you want an assessment of value you can consult the BlueBook of cues. Otherwise you can check out what you can get for it by keeping an eye out on the AZ wanted/for sale forum. or if you have enough guts you can post a thread with pics taking offers for your SW, while being submitted to being chastised with sarcasm and unfriendly comments in regard to not being compliant with our Ius non scriptum of the "wanted/for sale" forum.:thumbup:
 
Thanks a ton for the replies. Just took these pics. Please let me know if I can improve them. I tried to highlight what appears to me to be the biggest flaw, which is the dent on the butt and the smaller one beneath it. As you can see, one shaft matches the cue, and one does not. I have no idea what the story is behind this, as I bought it this way. Also, I am only posting here, cause I have no idea what to ask for it! Don't mean to break any rules. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the help all!

John, i bet you will surprised what someone will pay for your cue. Good looking SW. Best of luck on your sale.....

Hello John can you remove the cues bumper and take a photo of the bottom of the cue with the bumper removed?

It is a shame that only one shaft is original to the cue, but that doesn't decrease the value much.

John your best bet is to contact Laurie franklin at Southwest Cue, and have her give you an assecement of the cues value and approximate age.

Best steps to sell....

1) get an LOA from Laurie for $50. She'll approx. or tell you the year, as well as the woods. and of course the authentication.

2) Since the 2nd shaft does not match, it does not help the value of the cue. It's almost better to sell this separately. Maybe, Laurie would match up the ringwork with the butt?

3) I have an idea of its worth, but people here get bent out of shape when you suggest price. I'd list it for sale here at top $ ($2600), and drop every so often.

By the way, Laurie will NOT give you any idea of the cues value.

A LOA (letter of authenticity) from Laurie Franklin of Southwest Cues in Las Vegas will help sell it, but will not give you the value. Go to the "Wanted/For Sale" forum and search for "Southwest", you will get a real good idea of what these cues are selling for. It looks a little rough so it may not bring top-top dollar, but it is very desireable. It is a pre-date (before dates were stamped on the pin) Jerry Franklin cue and many would like to own it. Good luck!!
